Hearing Aids vs Personal Amplifier

Posted , 4 users are following.

Hi

I have 30 per cent hearing loss and heard good and bad regarding hearing aids.

I was wondering if anyone has tried a personal hearing amplifier instead of hearing aids?

Wondering if better for tinnitus.

Thanks!

    Sharonl,

My affected ear has so much distortion when fullness is present (most of the time) my hearing aid just amplifies the distortion. I don't know what an amplifier does but I can't imagine it being any better. Maybe your ent will let you try both?

Hi Sharon. I’m sorry to hear about your hearing loss. MM disease is a frustrating condition, but amazing people are bringing to bear technology and science to alleviate those suffering from this malady. I am trying an amplifier from a company called Eargo. It doesn’t help with tinnitus though. I am comparing this against my hearing aid from Widex. I know some people including myself have benefited from retraining therapy where you teach your brain to tune out the ringing. It’s worked for me but can take months to see the positive effects. Anyway, stay positive and good luck.
