Hearing hypersensitivity after sac decompression surgery

Posted , 4 users are following.

After suffering for years with the issues that Menieres disease brings which includes sensitivity in the affected ear, I do understand the challenges. I recently underwent the sac decompression surgery because of uncontrollable vertigo attacks and loss additional hearing the my affected ear. It has been four months now and the sensitivity to noise seems to have heightened in my good ear as well. I fine loud noises especially noisy restaurants to be quite troubling. I am plugging my good ear with silicone ear plugs to reduce the background noises. This doesn't make conversations easy. Does anyone else have this problem?

Hi. Yes it did. No vertigo since one month after surgery. Fullness improved.

Yes, and I believe the medical term is called hyperaccusis. I've had MD for about 15 yrs and just recently has gone into both ears and I'm now very sensitive to certain sounds. The clanking of dishes, sirens, crowded spaces with music really seem to be the worst. I also use earplugs, but have recently gotten hearing aids which can be tuned to help with the sensitivity. I just got fitted with new hearing aids this week that work with the iPhone and you have the ability to adjust the sound and even tinnitus setting with the app. It also streams phone calls directly into the hearing aids which is the reason I got these specific hearing aids. I hope you find a solution as I know this condition can be very frustrating. Best of luck.

Thank you. I was beginning to think that it was unique to me.  It’s so distracting. I don’t have hearing aids yet but it’s great to know that they have advanced.
