Hearing loss & allergies?

My 6 month old has a diagnosis of sensori-neural hearing loss and recently was diagnosed with allergies to cows milk and egg whites.  Could there be a link between the two?

You'll have to ask your doctor about this. Did your baby always had an ear infection from this allergy? That could cause hearing loss. Is it severe that she/he will need a hearing aid?

He has hearing aids and is being assessed for cochlear implants. No idea if it's related to the allergy.....

Hm .. no idea. Sometimes we never know. You can ask your doctor or a specialist about this. I wear hearing aids too and I am not even sure if I was born with hearing loss or it was super strong mediciation that I was on for my surgeries. BUT my advice would be ... are you sure he needs a cochlear? I am only asking because I am glad I don't have them. I prefer hearing aids any day. If he or she can benefit from hearing aids, try to think about this !!!! Good luck.

      Thanks.

He has hearing aids but they are not giving him any hearing at all as far as the audiologists are aware.  Pretty sure he was born with the profound hearing loss and it probably isn't related to having allergies  - more wishful thinking on my part I think!

Sorry to hear that his hearing aids are not working for him. I am thankful that my HA works for me and I hope it will continue working for me forever. I would look into a CI or start learning sign language. I know it is hard to hear and understand but you will be okay! so will he. Ask for support from family and maybe find a group. Good luck
