Hi Leila sorry to hear your diagnosis. My suggestion is to try and keep positive.

stress is not good for your heart. Keep focused on the fact that your Consultant is contacting

two other Surgeons so you have two reasons to keep strong. Failing that I should

think you will be put forward for transplant? Im not a medical person just putting forward

the thought to keep a healthy diet and to keep as stress-free as you can to give yourself the best chance of recovery from any treatment that may be offered to you in the future.

I feel so devastated to think he said I have had it years and didn't know. I just hope that at 68 they don't think I am to old

They won't think that you are too old if you are otherwise fit enough for surgery. I had my aortic valve replaced at 77 and my less fit neighbour had a triple bypass and his aortic valve replaced at 83.

It seems amazing that you did not have symptoms years ago. What caused you to eventually see a cardiologist?

Google, 'coronary atherectomy UK' . This is a method of reaming out clogged arteries.

Hi Leila, so sorry to hear, I obviously can't comment on your medical situation as such but just wanted to let you know that my grandpa had bypass surgery (triple i think) in his 70's at least (can't remember exactly how old he is now but it was in recent years he had it done) so I would certainly hope they don't consider you too old.  I hope that helps to know even just a little

Dear Leila, sorry to learn of your condition. I was fit until 68 and then got angina which became unstable and 1 year ago had 4 x bypass op at 69. You should not give up hope, there is always a way forward and you may want to wait and see what other surgeons say. My surgeon said I had the 'widowmaker' and it was 97% blocked. Now I'm fit again and exercising so take heart. There can be future for you. And as others have written 68 is not too old! Best wishes for a good way forward for you!  Roy

Thank you for all your replies. I thought that these days most things could be done with the heart and I have heard of bypasses with 95% blocked. But he sais. One is blocked in many places. Surely there must be some surgeon that could help me

I feel as if I have been written off with no where to go. It's like they have said go away and die quietly .

How was your artery blockages diagnosed, was it through an angiogram or by a CT scan?
