Heart flutters

Good morning friends.

I've been a bit under the weather lately. A little head cold, I think. I went to see a doctor this week and he gave me sinus medicine to resolve that issue, so hopefully it works. But while I was there I mentioned to him that I've been experiencing heart flutters all this week. Now, I've had this feeling before and would dismiss it as the result of stress, coffee, and lack of sleep. It didn't bother me too much. But that was before my first "big" episode of anxiety, several months ago. Between then and now, I've had an EKG, blood work (several times), X-rays, etc. These tests were done because I feared heart issues during my initial panic attacks; I didn't know what was happening to me. But I got the all-clear several times, from the hospital and from my follow-ups with my normal GP who informed me of my anxiety state.

Now, since that time I've gone through many cycles of fear. I've feared just about every medical condition I could find in medical books. But I haven't worried about my heart since September, when I had those tests done. It's just that now I'm feeling these flutters and they scare me so much. It's like my heart will vibrate and then thump...as if it misses a beat now and then?

I've been told this can happen and I'm trying not to let this consume me. But it's hard. Has anyone here experienced a feeling similar to this? Any stories, advice, or reassurance would be appreciated.

It's hard to believe that AD can cause all this stuff. I've done lots of research and I know that it can, but still it's difficult to accept it. Because I keep having the "what if" thoughts. You know, what if this is something really bad?! What if this time it's serious? etc etc

      Ugh, so awful. sad

I literally had the same cold as you last week and my heart flutter/ palps were so bad which cause my anxiety to be through the roof! Now that my cold is done they have gone away so don't worry it's just because of your cold. My anxiety gets really bad when I'm sick so this always happens to me. Also if you're taking cold medicine that always causes heart palps too so stay away from them! Fell better!

If you are anxious your heart may palpate and flutter, this can be a normal symptom as your GP explained.

You can also get the same problem as you lie in bed, all linked to anxiety

Hey there, It happens to me too! It's like my heart skips a bit,it happens way too often, everyday at least once! I don't worry about it anymore as Ive been to the ER.had an ecg and everything seemed fine. Generally, I don't really worry about my heart anymore (thankfully) so by experience i will tell you that i just ignore it and it goes away, nothing wrong happens! You said you had your tests  too ,if there was anything wrong then it would have shown! It's a typical sign of anxiety. This and tachycardia as well. Sometimes I wake up with tachycardia,I ignore it and it goes away. Millions of people experience this everyday as well, even if they don't have an anxiety disorder. Our everyday lives are really stressful and this is beyond common! Best of luck! Keep us updated!

Thank you very much, friend. I've calmed down a bit since yesterday. The funny thing is that I know a lot of this stuff. I've done loads of research and understand that heart palps and flutters are normal, as are simple feelings of dizziness or headaches. But now and then my anxiety will completely take over and consume my thoughts for a day or two. It's weird and awful. I really convinced myself I was dying (again), and the emotional rollercoaster is super tough to deal with. But I'm on the mend...thanks, again, for your help. I really appreciate it. <3

Anxiety absolutely causes heart flutters, vibrations..etc..I was ill for a few weeks and had these. Couldnt stand it. When the anxiety left so did the flutters. It goes away.

Thank you, Lisa. I know I've had these before, but for some reason this time it really upset and scared me. What a crazy journey some days seem to be. Ugh. :\

Thanks, as always, for the help. I hope you're doing well!

I hope your feeling better but just to let you know I get palps every day and it used to scare the hell out of me but you've had tests and it's all good! Try exercising everyday!
