Heart issues/anxiety symptoms after eating or standing up

Hi everyone,
Does anybody else mostly just have issues only after eating or standing up/ moving around? Lately every time I eat, about 10 mins later my heart starts racing and feels irregular in its rythm, almost as if it stops for a second and then suddenly goes extra hard/fast. Sometimes I get a thudding/squeezing pain in my heart as well, which makes the whole left side of my chest hurt for days afterwards. It feels like I've strained my muscles doing chest exercises or something! Also, when I stand up after sitting or lying down for a while, I feel light headed and my heart races, and my stomachs feel odd - like all the blood is rushing to it or something. It's hard to describe. I also feel out of breath after eating and standing.
i just feel really scared because these symptoms don't just feel random any more, they feel related to eating or moving around somehow, and it has me convinced that this is evidence that there's something wrong with my heart. If it was anxiety, wouldn't it happen randomly throughout the day no matter what I was doing?
Also, When these symptoms first started happening to me a few years so ago, they were really mild and very infrequent, and seemed to happen randomly. Now, it happens everyday and it feels like they are getting worse. The pain is stronger and the heartbeat feels much more erratic. I feel so scared, especially as there is a history of heart attack and stroke in my family. I feel like I'm going to have a heart attack any day now, or sudden heart failure. I've had resting ecgs which were fine, had an echo which I'm waiting for results for, and getting a 12 day monitor in a week. Despite this, I don't feel reassured at all.
Has anyone else experienced any of this, with eating and moving around etc?

Yes, lying down is the only thing that helps stop the symptoms for me too. I am waiting for more tests and for the results from my cardiocall monitor. I will definitely post an update when I get those.
in the meantime, I find it helps a bit to eat smaller meals more frequently, and to regularly drink water, as suggested by others in this thread. It has eased the symptoms for me slightly, but they are still there. Have you gone to the doctors or had any tests done?

i promised to to do an update, if anyone is still interested. Well I had my monitor fitted, and funnily enough, the symptoms did subside quite a lot, which I suppose may point to anxiety? I did have a few skipped beats which I tried to record, but annoyingly, the monitor got wiped just before I had to hand it in. So I feel like the results from that are a bit useless - the doctor said they couldn't see anything concerning on it.
i had an appointment with a cardiologist to discuss things, and he said that the results from my echo were fine, as was my ecg (I had another one when I saw him). He asked about all my symptoms, and the rhythm and behaviour of my palpitations, and he said it all seemed fine, and that they are just normal palpitations. He did say I might need to have another monitor at some point to record them, as my first one didn't really work.
my blood pressure was high though, which they want to investigate. They are going to give me a 24 hour bp monitor to see what my bp is like through the day, rather than just from one reading. Interestingly, he did say that high bp can cause palpitations, or increase their intensity, which I didn't know.
But all in all, he didn't seem concerned, so I suppose I should be reassured. Of course it doesn't work like that for us lot, lol! But I'll try and get on with things. I do keep having thoughts like 'what if I didn't describe my palpitations right? Maybe they are more erratic than I described', because I didn't really describe them as well as I'd like (I felt a bit rushed), but now he thinks everything's fine! But I have to tell myself that I can always just see my doctor again if I do feel somethings wrong, I'm not on my own now, even though it feels like it abit.
so that's that - mixed feelings about it. I think I'll focus on trying to bring my book down per the doctors advice, and see what's up with this monitor that I get.
thanks for reading x

Hi Shelley,
After my update I posted above a year ago, my symptoms have gradually subsided, to the point where I don't really have them much anymore. I do still get a milder version of them sometimes when I've been eating poorly, but I haven't been to the doctor about my heart since.
i did have high blood pressure, so I tried to bring it down to see if that fixed it, after the doctor said high bp can cause or amplify palpitations. I ate smaller meals more often, drank more water, and cut out coffee and too much white starchy foods as those two things really made my symptoms worse. It seems to have worked, so I guess my problem was high bp and/or anxiety, exacerbated by a poor diet.
I don't know if that helps at all. I'm sorry to hear you are having a hard time with your symptoms, I know how terrifying it feels
I really hope you can get the tests and answers you need. Good luck x

I see this post was awhile ago but I also need help. I have been to Er had all kinds of tests done. They even think I have svt but my life had progressively gotten worse I cant stand foe longer than a few minutes and I have shortness of breath. My heart goes up my legs get shakey and I have to lie down I've spent the last month on bed. They think maybe anxiety but I cant even stand up anymore. I'm apparently healthy but what's wrong with me. I started anxiety med to see if maybe that would help but I'm only on day 4. I swear something is restricting my air near my diagrpgm and throat. Did u ever find out what was wrong??,

Hope your doing well Shelley, it's tough! First I must say most are right, watch your food intake and stay hydrated. Plus having a bottle of water is handy in calming the nerves. I developed anxiety after I had a aortic valve replacement. After the surgery everything seems traumatic. Small things become big things in my head. But once I relax or write about it in my journal I'm OK. Sometimes the medication helps, sometimes it's beyond help. Then I just breathe deeply close my eyes and it goes away. Well enough to write about it and then each episode gets less because I document it. It's important to have a network or someone you can talk to. Hope things are well.

I'm experiencing all of the symptoms you meation in your initial post. It's been going on for over a month now. I've had all type of test dpne form ekg, stress test, xrays, blood work and everything came back normal. Now there thanking its acid reflux. It' s a very scary situation. Now that I've read your post I kinda feel a lil relief. I cam certainly agree that alpt has to do with anxiety because I gets really nervous when they start. How long did it actually take for your symptons to subside because I actually been prescribed omperazole.

Hi. I'd like to say I'm all better but it's taking years to get me to this point and it will take work to get back to a better quality of life. My Svt started in July, I take a beta blocker to regulate my heart. I still have the shortness of breath on some days. I think I have anxiety as well as ptsd ( post traumatic) from all the trauma I had with the svt. After 6 months of this I am realizing that if stress can cause cancer, why can't it cause acid refux, irritable bowel; indigestion, chest pains, shortness of breath etc etc. The list is endless and I have had every symptom you read about and usually all at once. I am in cognitive therapy, since all my medical tests are fine. The brain is a powerful thing. When I feel anxious I downloaded an app called mindshift it helps to do visualization or the body scan. Check that out. You have to try everything once and see what works for you. I may try an anxiety med, I had tried some but had too many side effects. Going for walks, I try to leave the house everyday and do something to help someone else if possible . On days that aren't so good, I may lie down and practice belly breathing, do something relaxing . I have learned my limitations and everyday I get a little bit stronger and healthier . By the way take B12
vitamins for anxiety that is huge. I also take probiotics; enzymes, omega 3 and vitamin d. Stress affects the stomach so I'm trying to heal lt the best I can. I hope some of this helps, I'm a work in progress; but sharing experiences has helped me and I hope it helps someone else. Take care

It took around 3 months for my symptoms to subside, by making sure I looked after my diet and improved my blood pressure. I can sometimes go an entire month without getting any symptoms at all these days, as long as I am eating well and keeping regular with my toilet movements (tmi sorry, but it's true). As soon as I have 3 or more days of eating stodgy food, I start to get mild symptoms again, or even if I just don't eat healthy generally.
It does seem like the stomach is directly linked to anxiety/heart symptoms, just going by my personal experience and reading other people's stories, so I wouldn't be surprised if it might be reflux in your case. Try and see if you can reduce it following your doctors advice and see if it helps at all. Did they check your blood for any vitamin deficiencies? There are a lot that can effect the heart if you aren't getting enough, which I'm sure I wasn't when my diet was poor x

Thank you. I do believe it's acid reflux. It's just scary all together. Reading you all comments made me feel a lil at ease now that I know more about controlling it. I really thought it was my heart sp the anxietytook over. I'm learning to relax a lil more because once I get nervous I start to panic and then I go to the Er. So again thank you.

Thank you. I really appreciate your advice. This is one scary situation. I do think its acid reflux at an advanced stage. Im going back to my primary in a couple of weeks, I'm gonna suggest further test. Again thank you.
