heart murmur, should I be worried?

hi all,

I went to the doctors complaining of stabbing chest pain when breathing in as well as shortness of breath and other random chest pains as well. I also told him about my predominantly right sided headaches and a very terrifying experience I had of my vision cutting out suddenly for a split second then returning, as if a light at been switched off then back on again.

he checked my heart and he found a heart murmur and I am going to be sent a letter about an ultrasound of my heart soon.

should I be worried about this? he said it could be harmless because I am young but that it should still be checked. how does the letter work? how long do they take?

thankyou

The stabbing pains do not sound as if of cardiac origin. Google Costochondritis to see if that fits the bill.

Try not to worry about the murmur until you have had the scan. People live a normal life with murmurs and are surprised when one day they get a chest infection or something and it is noticed during the examination for that.

Someone I know was born with one and was a professional dancer in musicals without it being a problem. Mine was commented on when I was 18 and it did not become a problem until I was 79.

It all depends if your GP marked it as being urgent or routine and the local waiting lists.

Does your surgery let you access your records. If so you can see referrals, test results, medications issued and make online appointments after you are issued with a user name and password.
