Heart pain any ideas?

When relaxing such as laying down or slouching in the sofa feel like chest on the left side is tightening I can't lay on my left side for too long before pain come and some times I get a squeezing like shooting pain come from the heart area sometimes it happens a few times straight after each other to the point I've thought i was about to have a heart attack.

It's not everyday but most days mostly when I'm relaxed my chest does always feel tight on the left side along with all these pains. Just not sure what to do and hoping it's nothing serious and haven't been doctors yet but pains becoming more often now that's why I'm on here.

    Hi Matt

This is very unlikely to be heart related. It is more likely to be your back or your ribs causing this pain. Pain from the heart feels like a pressure under the breast bone or burning sensation, very rarely is it a shooting pain. It also lasts for a good few minutes to half an hour and is provoked by exertion, not when resting. The pain and tightness you describe sounds nerve related. A problem in your thoracic spine can cause this, so can your ribs. The tightness would be felt on both sides too if it was your heart and it would be noticed when you exert yourself.

Go and see the doc to put your mind at rest but based on what you describe I very much doubt this is serious.

    Good luck

    Hi Matt.

Another possibility is heartburn which, if you haven't experienced it before, can feel much like you are describing. Particularly if it comes on while you have been relaxing on the sofa shortly after a heavy or spicy meal. Go and see the doc to put your mind at rest and establish if its heart, nerve or digestion related.
