Heart Palpitations

Posted , 4 users are following.

I started Zoloft 50mg. approximately 3 weeks ago and the Dr. bumped me up to 100mg. 1 week ago.  For the past 3 days, I've been having heart palpitations.  I'm wondering if I shouldn't go back down to the 50mg dose as I wasn't having them on that dose or should I wait it out and hope they go away?

Thanks,

Wendy

    Hello Wendy I think the increase has caused this as it is a side effect, it should hopefully disappear or at least lessen over the next few weeks. Don't mess with the medication and change doses, keep it consistent and you will level out. Hope you get better soon

    I have to disagree.  This is your heart!  I found this regarding Zoloft side effects:

    !!!Call your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as:

    very stiff (rigid) muscles, high fever, sweating, confusion, fast or uneven heartbeats, feeling like you might pass out;

    agitation, hallucinations, fever, overactive reflexes, tremors;

    nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, feeling unsteady, loss of coordination; or

    headache, trouble concentrating, memory problems, weakness, fainting, seizure, shallow breathing or breathing that stops.

    Talk to your doctor ASAP and revert to the previous dosage in the meantime.  One week shouldn't be long enough for dropping back to cause withdrawal.

    Good luck and let us know what happens.

    Hi wa313

    this happened to myself abit back, I'm on Sertline on 100mg.

    not long after my GP upped my dose from 50mg, exact thing happened to me.....

    when I called into see her I was having heart palpitations.....right in front off her.....

    pit was nt long after upping my dose from 50 to 100 mg

    i was booked in for a heart monitor

    and I was ok!!!

    alll I can say is go see your GP, for some reassurance and you will probably get your heart monitored!.

    Good luck,

    I had the palpitations and a lot of the side effects listed above which are also symptoms of anxiety and are not necessarily side effects. The doc also suggested an eeg test for me to reassure me that the heart palpitations are just that and are caused by anxiety and side effects when starting the meds. Had the test everything absolutely normal. They have diminished considerably now I have been on sertraline for about 2 months.

    Thank you all for your replies. I decided to go back to the 50mg dosage. So far today, I haven't had any palpitations. I will continue this and see what happens. Hopefully, all will be well but if I start feeling worse, I will definitely consult with my doctor. Again, I appreciate everyone's input.

    Thank you,

    Wendy

      I'm glad you are feeling better, Wendy.  If this lower dose suits you, then there is no reason to go up.  It is very individual as to what an effective dose really is.
