Heart Palpitations and possible stomach problem ?

HI Everyone!

By way of introduction i am Humza, 24, Male and would like to seek expertise on my situation.

I have been eating lot of junk food from outside until I was around 96-98 KG and realised i need to eat healthy food and reduce weight, Since then i stopped all the spicy/junk food along with carbonated drinks and caffeine. To reduce weight i did extensive cardio for few months until i was 75-78 kg.

I changed my lifestyle and because of it had to face some issues which included constipation, heart palpitations at night and food coming to mouth (sometime after eating). Therefore, I had to elevate my bed before sleeping which helped a little to avoid palpitations but constipation still continued.

In order to cure constipation i relied a lot on lactulose and recently i decided to quit on lactulose so that my stomach should work naturally. So far it has been 3 weeks without any laxative and i have been taking a lot of fiber (avocado, papaya, prunes etc) with around 2-3 liters of water every day.

Below are the symptoms that i face now:

- Constipation (though fibre helped to empty 15-20% of everyday bowel but i guess it will take time)

- Sudden fast heart beat specially at night ( i remember going to doctor once, he checked blood pressure and did ECG, apparently everything was fine)

- Developed certain allergy causing runny nose and sneezing (not sure what triggers it but most likely it is due to dust)

- food coming to mouth sometime after eating

- Number pinky fingers of both hands usually at the time of sleep and in morning

- A lot of underarm sweating during the early day time

I tried taking Omeprazole 20mg but apparently it is increasing heart palpitations

Surprisingly, I do not have heartburn or any pain in the stomach.

I look forward for your expertise and guidance

Thanks,

Humza

    I find omeprazole very good.

If you find it is increasing heart rate you could also take bisoprolol. I used to have quite a high heart rate and palpitations still I started taking these tablets.

It's good that you are eating a healthier diet.

Raising your head will definitely help with palpitations and heartburn at night.

Take care and keep in touhc

      Hi Sarah,

Thanks for your feedback.... palpitations really gets annoying  and sleepless during bedtime, i guess i should just live with it and continue  omeprazole for another week or so!!

      Thanks,

My doctor recommends magnesium for palpitations as an option to medication - at least initially - not sure if it will help with actual heart rate. But of course follow what you doctor says.

Do you do meditation?  I have used it for calming and heart rate improvements.  I only do about 10-15 min daily but was doing it 2x a day at first.

Food in the mouth could be acid reflux depending on how often it happens.  Never lay down after eating, try not to drink alot of liquids with meals as it can dilute the enzymes in your stomach AND you can also take digestive enzymes with meals to see if that helps.  There are also other things you can take if it's reflux.

Magnesium also helps with constipation, you have to take enough to 'go' to the bathroom but too much can cause loose bowel movements, so just take less if that happens.  It can be taken daily.

      Hi Vibegirl,

Thanks alot for sharing your experience

How do you meditate? do you have any instruction manual available?

      Thanks,

I started with simply going on youtube and typing in 'guided meditation' - LOTS will come up smile  I found in the beginning I was better able to stay with it longer if someone was 'guiding' me a bit.  Now I can sit with just music or background nature sounds (also all from youtube!)   I find meditation in general helps me 'react' to situations differently...I'm calmer, mood is lighter.  Of course I'm not perfect and miss some days here and there...but I always get on track.  Start with 5-10 minutes a day.  Lots of free info out there to make it easier and you can type in ANYTHING depending on what you need help with.  For example 'meditation to help sleep' or meditation for beginners etc

      Can't hurt to try!

Hi Hum, check w your GI to test if u have silent reflux, gerd, acid reflux. I was told by ENT last year that I had it, took omeprizole , didn't help. I finally had time to see a GI. I don't have silent reflux, ... I'm still following up for other symptoms. Told I have IBS.

Have your Gi test your stool, complete blood work.

have an allergist test you for food & other allergies.

    good luck

      Hi Chris

Thanks for sharing your experience... I have not been to doctor yet, as I normally avoid medications and rely more on natural healing.

So far high fiber content (prunes, avocado and papaya) have worked to relieve constipation! lets see how far it goes

      Regards

First thing I would have checked is your thyroid. Thyroid function can effect a lot of things including weight, heart beat, temperature regulation, bowels, etc.

The reflux in your throat.... this can be a sign of to much stomach acid, BUT it can also be a sign of not enough stomach acid. Is your stomach bloated sometimes?

      HI Dr DDJ,

Thanks for your expertise, I am really glad that you have shared your knowledge

There is not much of stomach bloating other then the feeling of being constipated.

I think one of the reason behind my current situation is mainly the change in lifestyle, as I moved to a different country and started having food from outside 3 times a day! (mostly junk ). So may be my habbits adversly impacted thyroid in some way.

I will definitely go for thyroid blood test, can you suggest any course of action that i should take? or perhaps any diet plan that i can follow in the meantime.

      Thanks,

      Humza
