Heart Palpitations every time I eat anything.

This has been killing me for the last couple of months now. I've never had palpitations my entire life until just recently (last couple of months) but now I seem to get them all the time. First I thought it was just because i have a stressful job. RN working in a hospital 12hr shifts. But I started to notice that I get them when i'm relaxed at home and especially after I eat. I doen't matter what I eat, when I eat it, or how I eat it. Sometimes straight after, I get the palps sometimes an hour or two after. Sometimes I don't get them at all for a couple of days. I've heard hiatal hernias can cause these to happen. Vagal nerve stimulation. I do have bad acidity most of the time, and get heartburn alot. This happen to anyone else? i'm trying to keep my head when these happen, they are scary.

I don't get them with eating much but have. If you are talking about skips, I get them almost every night before I go to sleep, or in morning when waking up. Hate them. I am getting an echo done tomorrow to see if my heart is normal in structure. Getting tired and worried about them. I have a hiatle hernia too.and GERD. Which I heard can affect your heart. Had these things for forty years but worse as getting older. Dats say won't kill you, but scare me every time! Hope you feel better. Nurses work so hard!Take care. Mabel

You have described me perfectly. I have a hiatus hernia. I also have acid reflux. I truly believe that when I eat it goes thru the oeasophagus into the stomach. At that point because of my hh it squeezes through and it irritates the vagus nerve which in turn irritates my normal heart rhythms. I do get them at other times but I'm feeling them more after eating something.

I too get heartburn a lot. Now I also get palpitations when I eat a heavy meal or cold drink, this gradually got worst so that I got these palpitations at other times too. I even bought my own little ECG machine and sure enough, big spikes matches the feeling of my breath being snatched away and my heart leaping into my mouth.

Turned out I had Ventricular Tachycardia that rapididly deteriorated until I had a 12 hour bout that saw me in A & E from which they performed a successful Ablation.

The strange thing is though, I no longer get the palpitations, I could see whilst I was still connected to the ECG machine in the hospital, heart beat normal, but I still get the feeling of my breath being snatched away and my heart leaping.

I can only guess that something is still affecting my vegal nurve but that since the abalation, it no longer triggers the VT in my heart.
