Heart problem or anxiety?
Posted , 4 users are following.
Hi all, well to start, I've had general anxiety my whole life. I am 22.. seven months ago I found out I had a blood clot in my brain so I went throught something very traumatizing. Long story short, I am better now, blood clot gone.. but I'm still on a anti seizure medication which is known to cause major side effects and anxiety. Anyway, tl my anxiety is so bad that I literally made myself sick and ended up in the hospital thinking I had a heart problem.. everything turned it fine after alot of test and seeing a cardiologist. They did, chest xray, ekg, echo, and stress test and everything came back normal. I have been fine every since but recently I been having crazy anxiety and I feel my heart pounding so hard throughout my whole body. It's scaring me.. I'm I just overthinking?

Hi Melanie,
We are all concerned and we all need to get you feeling better.
Most people feel anxious, panicky or fearful about situations in life, such as money problems or exams but often once the difficult situation is over, you feel better and calmer. Sometimes the feelings of fear or anxiety continue after the difficult situation or sometimes you may feel a stronger sense of fear than other people and this is when anxiety becomes a problem and can affect you doing every day things.
Symptoms of anxiety include feeling frightened, nervous or panicky all the time. You may also feel down or depressed and have difficulties sleeping and eating, be unable to concentrate on things and feel tired and irritable. Physically you might have palpitations or a racing of your heart, dry mouth, trembling, faintness and you may experience stomach cramps or diarrhoea.
You may have anxiety because of your family history and genes or it could be down to something else like trauma in childhood. Some physical or mental health problems can make you anxiousas in your case.
My advice and I am not a doctor of any kind so I will just advise you to take a look at yourself and think about what you need to do in your life and maybe go out and do it.
Whatever it is you know you can do it and you are still a young and probably a very attractive young lady.
One think I am so glad of is that your blood clot has all been sorted and you have had all those tests and everything is all okay.
So really there is no reason to panic about that any more or no reason to worry about it. I think you are still worried and it brings on your anxiety but try not to think about it and go live and take up a hobby or something to keep your mind ocupied.
I was so so worried about dying when I had my heart attack and I use to panic and get so frustrated because I couldn't do what I did before.
I had to learn to take my time a bit and learn to stop worrying. So can you try to stop worrying about things and concentrate on living?
I bought myself a bike and I try to keep fit now and I am getting there slowly but surely.
You are the only one who can do this Melanie and you know you are 100% cured so stop worrying and stop thinking about things that make you worry.
Is the medication you are on for life?
I would go back to the doctor and see if there is an alternative medicine for your situation but I know it is not easy for you and I would advise you not to think about the after affects of the medicine and just believe that they are keeping you alive and without them where would you be now?
Do your best Melanie and try not to worry about the things you read on the internet. Not all are true so just stop worrying okay???

Thank you for your words! This REALLY helped me alot. My mom has anxiety, she's on meds for it. Maybe that could be something to do with it but it just feels that ever since I had a seizure due to my blood clot my fear got worse. I have anxiety almost everyday and I have to fight and tell myself that I am really ok. I have a 3 year old son and I don't want him to see me that way.. There's days where it's like I have no interest in the world. I was never like this until that event happened to me. And like I said, the medicine could also be making me feel this way. I'm supposed to be getting off soon hopefully. I have to do a eeg test and if that comes back normal I will start weaning off the seizure meds. I guess when you have a blood clot in your brain they want you on seizure meds incase.but my clot is gone so I feel like I'm on these meds for no reason and it's making me crazy. Yes I have had all cardiology test done a few months ago so I know I'm ok. I just need to keep my anxiety and panic under control. I feel like a hypochondriac. It's horrible. I feel better today for some reason.. I'm just trying to stay calm and convince myself I'm healthy.

That's the way Melanie, just convince yourself you are healthy and live a happy life with your son and be always possitive.
Life is far too short to worry and I learned that when I was about your age because I was a alcoholic at your age and a heavy smoker too.
I had no reason to live but I had to fight and fight and kept telling myself that life is woth living and never give up.
Your son is your life now so do it for him and do it for your momma too because she needs to see how you can do it and maybe she will do it too.
I know it'shard I really do but I believe in you and I know you can do this and keep your head up and be proud of who you are and what you are doing.
Never ever feel depressed and fight it when you feel a little depressed just think about your son and ask yourself: "What would he do without you"?
I had 3 sons and they really kept me alive because after my divorce I just wanted to die but every time I thought about topping myself I just thought about my 3 boys and then I was okay.
So every time you get to feel down then look up and say to yourself:
"I will do this" and then do itand smile at the same time and tell your momma and your son how much you love them both.

Hiya,
I completely understand where you're coming from, I was diagnosed with a very dangerous congenital heart condition a year ago and have since undergone four bouts of heart surgery, so I understand how traumatic it is and how anxious it can make you. My advice is to take a beta blocker. These are meds, usually in tablet form, that are used to slow down your heart rate. There are lots of different types, some are specially designed for heart problems and some are better for anxiety. I definitely recommend propranolol in your situation, you can take up to four tablets three times a day whenever your hr is fast. I would also recommend maybe seeing someone about your anxiety! There a psychologists specifically trained to deal with people who have health anxiety or who have been through traumatic experiences and this could really help you.
