Heart races when legs jerk

Posted , 2 users are following.

I have been on meds for RLS for years. Sometimes I have no sensation that my legs will bother me that night so I skip taking my medication. Sure enough, every time, my legs start jerking. When they do my heart races. The racing worsens with every jerk until I get up and take my medicine. Does anyone else deal with this? Should I be concerned?

Thanks! Lisa

The heart races to supply more oxygen to where it is needed, So don't worry about that, it's natural.

If you have RLS you cannot skip, siomple as that. So I wonder if you do have WED/RLS !

What meds do you take? That will tell a lot.

Thanks for responding. I was on Mirapex originally and then with no explanation I was switched to Requip. The Requip made my legs swell so about a year ago I was switched to Gabapentin (Neurontin). When I was a teen my legs just had the urge to move feeling in them and Bengay covered the feeling up. My legs steadily grew worse and now my legs jerk violently at night if I don't take my medicine. I do want to mention that most of my mom's sisters, my mom, sister, and my daughters have RLS. None of the men in my family have it.

I'm thinking PLMD, maybe PLMD and RLS/WED. Requip (Ropinirole) has been associated with heart palpitations. Neurontin (Gabapentin) is a pain killer, the newer Gabepentin encarbil (Horizant) or Lyrica are better. PLMD has been found to be three times more common in women than men. Mainly 50 years old plus. A good specialist is needed.

Currently I alternate every couple of weeks between ropinirole and methatdone (low level and non addictive).

Thanks again for your response. I will definitely ask for a referral to a specialist and bring up everything you mentioned. The Gabapentin doesn't go down easily and beginning at 600 mg doesn't make me happy either. I just assumed that was the lowest dose.
