Heart seems to pause and thump every time I take a deep breath?!

Hi folks,

I've been very concerned recently about palpitations I've been experiencing. I'm 32, male, not over or under weight, don't smoke and rarely drink. I ended up going to my GP a few years back due to feeling skipped beats on and off. Got a Holter done (apparently the results showed NOTHING in 24 hours, even though I experienced several 'events').

Sometimes I just feel a very small, split-second 'quiver' sensation that I can brush off. Almost like a load of small bubbles bursting all at once in my chest/throat.

However, sometimes it feels totally different and very frightening. This usually happens after eating a meal. It only seems to happen whenever take a deep breath in, my heart just seems to stop dead just as I reach the top of the inhale, there will be a noticeable pause, then it will thump really hard once, then will beat quicker until I can calm myself. This leaves me feeling really shaky and scared and sometimes a little bit nauseous and faint (although I appreciate this could be the anxiety in the moment).

I'm terrified of exercising or stressing my heart too much in any way, as I feel like the palpitations might be making it weak!

Does this sound familiar to anyone else?

If this feels different to your previous problems then it would be as well to check it out, otherwise you will become very anxious which only seems to make things worse.

Its worth reading a variety of the threads here as a wide variety of symptoms are listed.

At 32 you can't go round forever not wanting to exercise or exerting yourself in any way.

These things manifest themselves in many different ways and you need to ensure that the way it affects you is 'harmless' in the eyes of the medical world.
