Heart stops beating for a second....SHOULD I WORRY ?

I am a 44 year old female that was diagnosed with anxiety last October after an overnight stay in the hospital . I went there cause I have had dizziness and off balance everyday when I sit, stand and walk. They did a stress test and said all was normal so ruled it as anxiety. I have also seen a neurologist and an ENT and all normal as well so where is all this dizziness and off balance coming from ? Now for the past few months when I try to go to sleep my heart stops beating for a second and this don't happen every night when I sleep , it comes and goes. Last night was the first time it has happened in a few weeks.....idk what to do anymore....I need answers so I can resume a normal life again...

It sounds as though you are experiencing ectopic beats. We all get them but aren't aware of them most of the time. I dont think this should cause you any anxiety at all but why not let your GP reassure you and then you won't be alarmed when it happens. All the best.

Hello Michelle, as Bess says, ectopic heartbeats (missed or extra beats) are mostly harmless. You can still ask your doc, but increased frequency or accompanying pain are what definitely require a doctor's investigation. Caffeine, alcohol and tobacco can have a bearing on this matter, so if your consumption of any of them are high, reduce them. Exercise like walking can also be recommended.

Anxiety too can affect heart rhythm, like with palpitations, etc.

As for the dizziness, that can be a symptom of anxiety with some people, but if the dizziness (or/and heartbeat matter) came before the anxiety and is causing it - which would be totally expected -  then that wouldn't seem to apply here. Only further tests, like for Meniere's illness, or maybe inner ear infection, etc, would get to the bottom of it. Hopefully you eat and drink fluid well enough, as dehydration can cause dizziness or light-headedness. Best wishes.

Thanks Paul...I quit smoking 3 years ago and don't drink alcohol or caffeine I just drink water and juice . I am getting a 2nd opinion on my ear by doing another vestibular test next month so hopefully will have some answers soon.
