Heartburn following TKR

Hi all, it's a while since I last posted but, finally, on Monday, I had a TKR of my left leg. All went well and I'm now back home in my own bed. Apart from the usual, and understandable, pain and the feeling of having a slab of concrete attached to my left hip, I have horrendous heartburn. I was first aware of this after immediately coming out of surgery and it remained during my hospital stay and only gallons of Gaviscon helped keep it at bay. Now I'm home I had hoped that it had gone. Unfortunately, it's back tonight With a vengeance. I've taken bicarbonate of soda and that has helped. My question is has anyone out there suffered the same thing. I had a THR in 2012 and had an epidural then and I was fine!

When I had my tkr my doctor gave me a "cocktail" of medications he deemed necessary.  I am pretty sure that one was for heartburn etc.  You might ask your doctor if he can prescribe something.

They also gave me meds for stomach. Because of pain meds...maybe you can get from pharmacy some over the counter antacid....

Omeprazle is the common med for this and they usual prescribe it if you have a tendency for nausea following a general anaesthetic.  I take it for acid reflux, as I have a hiatus hernia.

Its probably one of the pain meds. Discuss it with your primary care Dr ASAP. Something is not messing and needs to be changed. Make sure the pain meds you are on aren't causing constipation that can really mess with the entire GI system. Also, add a lot of water. Hydration is very important for all the body to funtion after surgery

Probably the meds you are taking but could be heart problems. DISSCUS with your doctor
