Heaviness

Does anyone else feel as if the leg that has had a TKR is a lead weight, this is becoming a real problem now, feels like they have put a lead knee replacement in not a titanium one.

Try having both replaced at the same time! Ha! Our muscles are just out of whack and need to be worked back into shape! It will eventually feel lighter. How long ago was your surgery?

I experienced that with my first one but I'm 7 wks on my second. I find right now that it's stiff but probably not heavy. My thigh mussels are strong and that helps. As you progress it will get better. How long ago did you have you tkr?

Hi, I will be 4 weeks post op on Friday, I swear they have put lead weights in there, lol.

lol it is a foreign object, and you should look up total knee replacement on you tube. That explains all that s done so you'll understand why. And as monadieu states, it must be horrible with both done at the same time. It's your mussels and ligaments, nerves etc.

Can't imagine having them both done at the same time, my right one will be done sometime next year, at least I will know what to expect.

I decided pain was pain. I didn't want to spend double the time in bed and being in India at the time, I had limited opportunity for others to come visit and help me. Personally, I'm glad it was done in what swoop. But...it was a challenge not meant for the meek. Looking back, I'm glad I did it that way. I would have done a few things differently, but I still would have done both at the same time. And I was afraid that the first one might scare me off from doing the 2nd one (which was really already in such a bad place - how would I have put that added weight on it?).

    Hi Diane

I am 9  months post op now and it still feels heavy and stiff....it is a little lighter than than 6 months ago but it is still lead like.

Everyone says it will get lighter but every time I go on my exercise bike or walk to my local shops, it gets heavy and tightens up...

Its like a never ending story!!

Yes I am 7 months out on my right knee and still get the heavy feeling, the clicking and clunking every time I move and the band feeling. Ive just got the feeling that I will have to put up with that. Its metal after all. Cant see it getting any better now. Sorry if thats being defeatist.

I am 4 months out today and I don't think it is lead. It is just the stiffness in your knee that feels like a huge tight rubber band wrapped around it.I was told it could last for months more. When I sit for more than 15 minutes it feels really tight and heavy. It feels a little better when I walk a little while but it never goes away.

Like you I will be 4 weeks post op on Friday and agree it does feel like a lead weight, hope it will get better as time goes on, also find am stiffer some days than others, do you find that?

I definetley feel stiffer on some days, I was fine for 2 weeks then in the 3rd week the stiffness got worse. I'm hoping it will get better eventually.

It does , it does, each day to me seems to always be different, one minute I'm stiff, the next swelling.... Etc.  normal course of healing I guess, keep up the good work!!! ????????
