Heavy physio SET BACK

Posted , 9 users are following.

Hi. Had my 2nd tkr Dec 21/17, was doing fine. Went to a different physio and she was having me hop, run, squat, was fine at first,

couple of weeks after both knees were swelling, never did that in my physio for first tkr, and my newest one feels not right, sometimes when I bend it it can hurt now where the bend is and clicks more.

have I damaged it? I’m so worried now and ticked off! I was doing so well I feel like I have stepped back 2 months!

anyone else?

ARE THEY CRAZY!!!!! I was told no runny, hopping, jumping etc. Surprisingly this knee replacement is totally different than the other 2. Have been able to do more. Finding doing chair to stand under water is great exercise

Did I read that right Jeanette, the physio had you RUN & HOP?! Where did this person come from? Running is a definite no no after TKR & I would think hopping was too!

I know you, like me (op 16/12/17) you should be quite far along now but I think you should go back to basics. Ice, elevate & do gentle exercise, just until the swelling goes down. Then reasses. The chances are that nothing is wrong with the implant it's likely just due to the swelling. Bring the e revise levels down a bit & rest with your leg up. If after a few days you still feel something is not right then see your surgeon even if only for reassurance.

Oh and sack the physio that thought it was safe to get a TKR patient in recovery to run & hop!

    All the best

Hi Jeanette, poor you. Far to much to soon. Change  that Physio, they are there to help you recovery not make it longer. I had a Right TKR on the 29th January, 8wks ago. Physio weekly and the last 2 weeks have been going to the Gym twice a week. Under supervision use Treadmill, Squats and Bike, not over doing it. Have an exercise bike at home which I use little and often. Occasional meds in the day but nights are not the best. Scar very sensitive still, even the duvet is too heavy. Ice packs and meds, long for a good nights sleep. How are you at night?

      Thanks.

Sleeping tough when I turn sides. But was like that before.

      i. So disappointed u put your trust in someone and this happens.

hope it calms down. Not as much the swelling but how it feels. Not a lot of pain

to take pain meds. Just feels horrible. Hard to describe def more cracking and popping

Wow, that sseems like alot of impact! What kind of implant is It? I've read in some places that in some cases people can get back to higher impact activities, but it's mostly not recommended. Is it a Stryker Triathlon? Did you tell your surgeon what sorts of activities you wanted to return to? I can believe the pt would have you do those things. I would talk to your surgeon.

Run,Hop,Squat no way,I very much doubt I will ever run,hop after my TKR and I wouldn’t risk anyway and I’m more than happy to walk well again.

Yes!! I am seven weeks out on a pkr. At two weeks I walked the length of three football fields down to the lake and felt so good but on the way back to house I wish I hadn’t gone for such a long walk . After that  the swelling never improved . My PT person always had me performing squats and one evening I felt like I tore my quadriceps muscle . My surgeon informed me that I did not tear anything but he can’t fully explain to me now why it hurts above my knee , below my knee and behind it. My leg does not want to flex at the knee unless I concentrate and walk thru the major discomfort. All my muscles and tendons hurt and feel like they do not want to stretch when I flex my knee. I have to mow my yard and rake leaves and I am hobbling around like a peg legged sailor at times. I never knew it would be so tough.
