Heel and coccyx pain 11 weeks post THR

My hip is doing very well and I can walk much better than before.Am a bit discouraged though as still having bad pain in none operated heel and disturbed last night by pain at base of back. This was improving and now I feel I am going backwards. Could it be that I am over doing it?Went on exercise bike yesterday but only for about 2minutes then realised I wasn't sitting up straight but bending forwards!!
Feel I have gained one good hip but now got other problems. Cant face having the other hip done while I have back pain. Couldnt lie on back now for 6 weeks.Should I be more patient?Janet

Try putting a cushion/pillow under you at night, just at the top of your thighs but below you bottom... this lift you a little but makes your back flat on the bed... I have two different sleeping positions this one and the other having a slim pillow under the base of my back. Both help depending on how I feel to what I do.
For the heal you need something under your legs but allow heel to drop over not touching.. it is all trial and error... never been so confused as to what my body needs to get some sleep, and how to ease pain...
The body has been through a major trauma, so as one area starts to feel better I believe that another shouts "WHAT ABOUT ME" ....
Hope these hints help you... as I said tonight I will decide once I have layed down which I need to do.

I very often went a step backwards every now and again in my recovery. I still get lower back pain when I overdo it, or sit in the office too long without moving.
We have to re-learn how to walk and move correctly, we have built up bad habits due to the pain we were in.
I had to have revision surgery 10 weeks after my initial surgery, so it was :-
Surgery followed by 6 weeks sleeping on my back
4 weeks 'able to sleep on side' (pain permitting)
Revision surgery followed by 6 more weeks sleeping on my back
Able to sleep on side again
Oddly I found that after the first surgery I could roll onto my operated side and not the unoperated side, but after the revision on the same joint, it was exactly the opposite

hi janet,
it sounds that you are doing really well - walking much better and no pain in operated hip ...
how is your other hip ? was there an xray taken at your last doctor's visit ?
I am asking because on my xray at follow up visit from 1st THR, the cartilage of other hip was gone from mild to bone-on-bone in 6 months time -
It definitely delayed recovery - I had 2nd THR within 6 months of 1st one -
Or you might have overdone it -
Are you walking without aids? Maybe your body still needs some support to keep you balanced ? this might be the cause of your back pain -
Do you have physical therapy?
It is a lot of stop and go and stop journey, darling --- hitting plateaus and all that - it will be okay though ...
big warm hug

Hi Renee,
I ho for my follow up visit in 2 weeks when my surgeon will look at x rays.I know my other hip is worn and he expects to replace it ,but prior to my op it gave me no pain. Now I have pain and it occasionally gives way a bit.I am feeling a bit down today as I seem to have exchanged pain in one hip for numerous pains- hip, back, heels.I didn't expect to have to go through this again.Sorry to moan.Janet

I know, I know. ...
it's tough sometimes .... When this happens, I usually go with it. .
acknowledge that I feel sad, angry, frustrated, and that it is OK. ..
my body relaxes then ....
