HI Raj, it depends on your height as well. Do you have joint School to go to? They Occupational therapist willlook at the height of everything and you height and then will say what you need. I ended up with raised frame over loo as had nothing to hold onto to push up. I am 5ft 3in. My armchair was fine. I had changed it due to having difficulties getting out of my old one. My bed is high and that was fine. They gave me a perch stall which was useful too. They can give you blocks for your chair/bed to to go on if necessary. The soxon is fantastic to get your socks etc on. I would recommend you purchase a long handle shoe horn. Makes a difference getting shoes on. With sleep depends on approach. If it's posterior usually 6 weeks on your back sleeping which for me with a back problem was hell. Your surgeon will tell you. I had to wait 6 weeks before laying on my side with pillow between my legs. I used a rolled up towel in the hollow of my back when laying on back. I won't lie that was the worse part for me not sleeping properly. I used to make sure I had a drink and snack beside me so if I woke up and couldn't sleep I would read. Good luck with the op a whole new life awaits you.

Hi, I went to pre op assessment which was very helpful but it was a few months ago.

I guess anxiety has kicked in as I’m worried

      About sleeping, sitting and bathing.

      Thank you

Hello Raj this was discussed both times with myself at my pre med. they asked me to measure from the back of my knee down to the floor and then they advised what height my bed, chair etc needed to be. I was supplied with a raised toilet seat, grab stick and long handled shoe horn to help around the house and my husband had to raise the chair with wooden blocks as our furniture is quite low.  I was initially advised to use pillows to make the chair a more comfortable height however I found that having sat on them for a while they became quite flat.   You will be advised to sleep on your back however my physio also told me to try on my stomach which I didn’t personally find very comfortable.  The plus side of all of this is you will eventually be pain free and enjoy your life again.  Good luck with the operation in November.

      Hi.

I’ve purchased a few items that the hospital told me about.   They will issue me with other items I will need.   I guess just getting anxious

About how to sit, sleep etc but physio will go through it again.   Thank you.

    Hi Raj

I was given a form to put down height measurements of my chair, toilet and bed plus type of home how many stairs etc. They they arrange all necessary equipment for you like raised toilet seat. At pre op assessment they tell you about restrictions and how to sleep etc and remind you whilst in hospital. Also physio goes through how to get on and off bed, chair and toilet and getting in and out of car. If they don't then pre op and whilst in hospital is the time to ask as your instructions will be in relation to method used for your particular op.

You'll be fine if you follow instructions and remember to rest a lot as well.

    Good luck

      Hi

Thank you, I’m slightly anxious I guess.

I’ve had the form put measurements down

Etc and realise I will need extra equipment now.   I will definitely be asking lots of questions.  Thank you.

Sitting height -loo and chair (allow for cushion sinking) need to be at least the height of the crease in in the back of the knee when you bend it. or slightly more. You can get toilet seats in various depths to add to the exisitng one and I found one with a lid which is useful. Instructions may say remove the exisitng seat but I found that not necesary if it was all put up against the cistern. With soft chairs make sure they don't slope back too much so you lose the 90 degrees.  in the car a wedge shape cushion is a great help to level out the seat. it depends where you are as to whether these things are checked or supplied before your op.- its too late to ask in hospital. Shoes with velcro fastenings are useful and look at the video on youtube of how to put on compression stockings the easy way using a plastic bag.
