Hello question about THR

So I have a hip spacer as of now its squeaky and it clicks when I walk sometimes more or less than other no pain but just wondering? My final hip replacement is on the second week of June. It's frustrating and I cant wait, its a bummer walking with a limp, and walking around with a cane. My THR is due to trauma from a car accident I'm 29 years old and ill count my blessings on being alive.

Hi, Globe, sorry you had that traumatic car accident. It is frustrating to have a spacer. May I ask why you have the delayed THR and use of spacer? Most people I have heard of with spacers had them because they had to take out an original THR due to infection, and the needed the spacer while the infection cleared up.

From accounts of those with spacers that I have read, most of them have quite a bit of pain and are on restricted weight-bearing. So if you have no pain, that is a good thing. My only advice would be to take it as easy as possible so as not to risk breaking or dislodging that temporary spacer. The THR implants will, of course, be a better fit and much stronger. Wishing you all the best as you go through this, and with your upcoming THR!

Regarding the squeaking and clicking, since spacers are temporary and not engineered as well as permanent implants, I wouldn't worry too much about the noises. You can always check with your surgeon about it for his official word on the subject!

Yes you are correct, the spacer is from a infection, and thanks for that info puts me at ease for a bit, I cant wait for the final THR

That waiting period can be agonizing! One thing I have learned -- after complications after a THR, and 15 months of limping and pain, and then a surgical repair, and then 6 more months of recovery -- is patience!

A hard lesson, to be sure.

Oh my, I can only imagine how frustrating it must of been for you, sorry to hear that. Makes my upcoming surgery look minor, 15 months, I think I would of gone mad. it's verrdifficult being patient for me, but at this point I have no choice. Any pointers there?

No, your surgery is NOT minor, but very MAJOR! I am old, and I creak in all of my joints and half of my muscles. I am not trying to get back to being active and pain-free, just somewhat active, so that I can stay as healthy as possible! I hope you will get all the way back to normal life, Globe!

    Hi therre

I too have a spacer that creaks and clicks. I'm only meant to put half my weight on it which means I'm using two crutches which restricts things a lot. In theory my new hip should go in 8 weeks after they took the old one out which will be mid May but I've not heard from them yet so suspect it may be later.

My THR is also due to a car accident when I was about your age in 1974. Like you I'm lucky to be alive.

    Mike
