I have had threadworms for a while about 5 years and I had them for the first 3 without telling anyone then I finally plucked up the courage to tell my mum and she got me some ovex which worked absolutely fine for about a year when I got reinfected-told my mum she got me another tablet then it happened again a few months after over and over and then 5 days ago I finally decided to put a stop to it and so we went to the chemist and bought vermox. I hadn't been following a constant hygiene routine when I kept getting reinfected so I presume that might be why I keep getting infected. I took the vermox pill on Monday and have seen no improvement yet but have been following a strict hygiene routine and have been having 3-4 showers a day, scrubbing my nails and washing hands hourly - not touching mouth or face with hands either. In bed I have been wearing underwear, tight fitting pants and then swimming costumes over the top so I don't manage to scratch in my sleep. How long does it take for vermox to work? I am so so depressed as I have seen people say they have battled this their whole life and I really do not want to go through this any more please someone help

I have recently come across a comment on Patient UK that horsetail can kill worms and their eggs. So having already had some horsetail capsules have started taking them and after threeish weeks have noticed a downturn in the itching. Because the cycle of threadworms is quite a long time allowing for reinfection etc I will continue to take them (if they show positive results) for at least 3/4 months and continue with the washing, showering, scrubbing during that time and beyond.
It may be worth trying these herbs to see if it can help you. I have sort of come to terms with the fact that there is a possibility I may never actually be rid of them but if I can dampen down the symptoms I will be very happy.
I have also had some success with Unda Complex but depending where you live (Canada/America are good) some companies will not post internationally because they contain a very small amount of alcohol (restrictions with the postal companies). I used Unda 39, 3 and tried to get number 17 which taken did also dampen down the itching.
Dont give up - there are times that I have also felt like I did not want to go on, but on the good days I try to stay positive. I would not wish these on my worst enemy as they have had a destructive effect upon my family life but ending it is definitely not the answer. If over time you find you have found something that will help others in the same position I'm sure they will be eternally grateful.
I hope that you can try the horsetail with the same results as I have had.

If the horsetail can aleviate the symptoms of these horrible threadworms, after three years of unsuccessful total obliteratioon, I am grateful for the lessening of the irritation.
Of course try the 'herbal routine' not many appear to have had success with it, but hey why don't we all write to the appropriate drug companys and ask why there is nothing currently on the market to kill the threadworm eggs and stop making so much money out of mebendazole that clearly doesn't work the only over the counter drug available.

Any information I can pass on to other sufferers I will, I only wish I had read about horsetail sooner.
As this is not a life threateneing 'illness' and probably last on the list for funding by drug companies of the national health, will we ever be free of them?
