Has anyone else had a foul smelling liquid leaking from anus since banding of hemerroids? I also had Botox for anal fissure. Is this normal? Also I spotted one of my bands in the toilet A day after my op. Is that too soon?

Yes, still getting it over 4 weeks later.  I can't control my bowel movements, sometimes I can't pass urine, so I've had a catheter twice.  Now I'm being sick and have awful pain in my lower abdomen and back passage. I'm seeing our family doctor today because I think I may have an infection. I'm sure your recovery will be straightforward but I wouldn't advise anyone to have this surgery unless they really need it.  After 2 miscarriages, 2 live births , one of them breed, a hysterectomy and surgery for a double prolapse I can categorically state that this has been the worst and most painful experience I have ever had!

Sorry - breed was meant to be breech.

I agree with that 100%. I have a 9 month old little boy and I was no where near in as much pain after having him as I am now. I wish they had stressed to me that I would need recovery time. If they had I never would have had this done. Have you had to be signed off of work? I've only just gone back after a long battle with my employers to agree my part time hours and I told my boss I wouldn't need any time off after this. Now I feel bad because I'm having to go sick. I am supposed to be giving them a good impression.

The only information that I had from my consultant surgeon was,"You'll be quite sore for two weeks."  Having researched the opinions of many people who've had this surgery, the vast majority seem to have had problems and not been warned beforehand of the possible side effects.  The irony in my case is that I told the surgeon at our first meeting that I have a prolapsed bladder and also that I have a  mega colon, which means I only pass faeces every 4 or 5 days.  He said that neither would be any problem at all but clearly they both were and are.  I went back into hospital twice for three days each time, the first because my rectum was blocked with stuff that I couldn't pass  but liquid poo was running out around the blockage.  All they did was tell me to push harder, which had me crying with the pain.  The second time was when I couldn't pass urine.  I was sent home after 3 days with a catheter for a week.  I can only say that I am now very tempted to make a complaint about the whole experience, especially because the surgeon had said my other medical needs were no problem, and also the fact that I was sent home the same day as the surgery with no medication, no advice on how to manage my recovery, and no warning about the possible awful problems during recovery.

Fortunately I didn't have the work problem because I'm 69 and retired.  Bedt of all I have a wonderful husband who is prepared to clean me up if need be, change bedding if I soil it, empty catheters, and hold my hand when I'm on the loo and screaming with pain.
