I'd really appreciate some help.
I was booze dependant for ages but managed to quit 9 mths ago and just started on sertraline as I was still feeling so anx and miserable.
I fell off the wagon this weekend and I'm in such a state. I'm drinking heavily today and I just need out ASAP!!!!!
Would double dosing help calm down my addictive cravings and needs?????
I'm on 50mg and just taken another to see if it would help.
I'm desperate.
Please help!!!!!

I'm no expert but I'd say stay with your dose. I quite drinking after becoming dependent last year and started again around Easter this year - but with much better control. I still need to stop again and am being supported in this by a local centre. One thing I can say for sure, Setraline and alcohol do not mix well, I drank over a bottle and a half of wine last week and nearly didn't make it through the day. If you have someone who can support you right now, then please do ask them to help.

Hi Kate,
You can do this! My brother went through the same thing and has been sober many years now. Did you attend a treatment center or any groups to stop the drinking? That is what my brother did. How long have you been on the 50mg? It will take a few weeks to really help out. Can you do something that you enjoy to distract you when you are feeling the urge to drink? You have it within you to conquer this. Stay strong.......
It isn't an easy journey but you can do it!

Hi Kate,
I'm sorry to hear you're having a hard time and feeling desperate. I'm not a medical professional, so bear that in mind, but I'd probably stick with the dose at 50mg for at leats 4-6 weeks to see if things improve with your anxiety. Unfortunately, a lot of people find the initial side effects of Sertraline really make anxiety worse and perhaps this is why you've turned back to alcohol. The beneficial effects of sertraline take several weeks to build up, so taking one extra pill today probably won't give you an instant improvement. Once sertraline starts to kick in properly then you will find depressive and anxious symptoms will lift, but you will need to give it time - I know this is of no comfort when you want help now.
I have a long history of alcohol issues and I've been through many cycles so I can perhaps understand what you are going through. Please try not to despair. You've stopped drinking before, you can do it again. Is there any support for alcohol issues you can turn to? I use Smart Recovery, which you can Google, they have online forums and chat rooms which might help. If you can visit a local drug and alcohol support centre then there are drugs they can prescribe to help. Acamprosate is one which helps some people with urges for alcohol, it might be worth a try?
If you need to PM me then please do! Take care and hang in there!

Thank you everyone.
It's a horrible place to be and gawd I wish I didn't think I could just have the one.
Massive work event in London meant everyone partying and I just let myself go.
Instantly drink cravings kicked in and I'm in a horrible binge mode.
I desp want out. While everyone else was curing with coffee I was popping to the hotel bar and sneaking in hair of the dog.
I'm in a wretched place at the mo.
Thanks for listening xxxx
