I am 46 and have fibromyalgia which was diagnosed about 10 years ago. I think I have had this condition for about 18 years. I am in pain most days but I have always coped somehow, I think sometimes through sheer determination and being a mother of three I just had to! The last two years I have had a really bad flare up in February and I've had to take time off from work, which is hard as I do not get paid sick. Last February it was severe for about three weeks, this year thirteen weeks later I'm still feeling really dreadful, I have also had a frozen shoulder, (probably down to the work that I do), this whole condition is hitting me hard as my head is telling me that I want to do so many things but my body wont let me. I am looking for a new job, but thats proving to be harder than I thought. I am so fed up! Tramadol make me sick also high doses of codeine. Does anyone think that a chiropractor or osteopath would help?

I don't have much pain and so don't really know what you are suffering, but I do have a tens machine which I use occasionaly and I find that gives me some relief from pain.
Lloyds pharmacy did have them on special offer a few months ago.
I hope you find some pain relief somewhere.

You are having a though time of it. I have had my fibro for about nine years but only diagnosed June last year. I do get pain sometimes bad but have never taken tramadol. My daughter has and it always made her feel sick too. I normally take coproxomol and can take up to 20mg ampytripline at night. I normally only take 10mg though. That can help with the sleep. I have trouble sleeping for several hours at a time.
It does get you down and I know what you mean about wanting to do something and your body won't let you. I also have osteo arthritis as well so that doesn't help me either. Just take one day at a time and see how you go. Have you got a good gp who you can talk to about your condition.
Took me nine years to find a gp at my doctors practice that would take me seriously. He was really good and referred me to see rheum who diagnosed me with fibro. I have had some physio sessions to help with the pain but not sure if it really does. The only good thing about the exercise it does make me feel better in myself as it realises endorphines that make you feel happier.
I would see your gp and see if he can give you something else to try for your pain. Good luck.

Have got a tens machine and use it while I'm at work, does help a bit. I think I'm just going through a bad time at the mo, not sure if its the age! Mixture of problems, got a bad job and boss, job is too physical and boss cant stand to pay us for sitting down! Am looking for another but I'n not qualified for much. I've had about 13-14 weeks where Ive been bad, this is the longest flare up ive had. Are any of you in the Wiltshire area?
Thanks for being understanding.
Got to get ready for another days work!

Sorry to hear ur feeling so crap at the moment. Like u say, it could be a mixture of one thing and another stressing u out. As u`ll know...stress makes the fibro worse.
It wouldn`t harm to try a chiropractor....but they`re expensive. What about massage? (mind u..they can be dear too). But it might release some of the tension in ur muscles. Tense muscles press on the nerves...which increases the pain.

Hope you get sorted out soon! Probably if you can find another job you enjoy will help you relax a little more. Although not easy at the moment for you with the credit crunch etc. I live just outside Peterborough so quite a way from you. Do get around in our motor home but not been your way. What places are in Wiltshire can't think of any at the mo.
Keep smiling.
