Sorry to tell you but it might be 2 weeks or longer before you feel the benefit of venlafaxine. I know it's hard, I've been through it myself so I do understand but all antidepressants are like that - they take some time to start working. In the meantime you have to try and keep going, get through one day at a time or even one hour at a time, and count each  one as an achievement & that bit nearer to feeling better. Have you got anyone you can talk to? Anyone to support you, family or medical professional? Crisis service or the Samaritans in an emergency? Keep at it and you'll get through, have faith. I hope that helps.

Thanks yes i have peeps to talk with but sometimes you just feel like that you are doing there heads in, i seem to bottle it all up then i expode which is no good for me and no good for anyone

Yeah bottling it up is no good...in fact i think it is one of the things that contributed to my depression. It might be worth finding a therapist...i did that and it really helped me work through lots of different things.

Also, as you're currently feeling so bad you are probably more worried than you need to be about doing people's heads in...people close to you might rather you chat with them about things than bottle it all up - i don't know as i don't know you but i did speak to close friends who had been through similar experiences and although they were worried about me i never felt i was annoying them in a doing their head in way...i kind of knew i was ill and needed to talk...and they knew that too.

That's rubbish sad In that case find a good therapist to talk to. And maybe when you start feeling better you can start doing some activities where you can make some other friends?

Hi Greenhouse, I have to agree with pixie it can take anything between 2 to 6 weeks for full effect.  Try to be patient with it and if you feel really bad  I am sure if you visit your Dr that the may give you a short course of something with a quicker effect to tie you until the VF starts to kick in.  Keep in touch

I think it took me about three weeks...it was a horrible three weeks but eventually the side effects wore off and i started to feel a lot better and be able to think more clearly. Hang in there, good luck smile

Hows things today ? I meant to say I am on 225mg of Venaflaxine and moved to this dosage in around 4-5 weeks as I had problems with mirtazapine. I had hoped to be off the tablets but the huge amount of stress in my life means the gp is suggesting I stay on the tablets.
