First port of call has to be your GP. Ask for a fast referral to a gastroenterologist, preferably a specialist in Crohns but any will do to find out what it is.  take some pain relief and let her sleep as much as she wants.  Try and get her to relax.  Stress will just make it worse.

i hope she finds help soon but it never seems to be quick.

Hi julie sorry to hear this is awful when you can't help your child. You haven't mentioned if she has frequent bowel movements too. This is usually a sign of an inflammatory problem. See a doctor and ask for a specialist opinion and don't be fobbed off with an IBS diagnosis unless they do a colonoscopy and find no inflammation. Many of us were told we had IBS for years before finding out we have Crohns. Good luck

5 weeks wasn't long ago there may be a couple of things going on. Maybe she needs a scan to check she hasn't got a mass (infarction which may need draining) I had one after a bowel resection and was in more pain than when I was in labour. Once it was drained it was such a relief. May not be but worth asking, I had no temperature or other symptoms just pain. Hope she gets on ok x

    HI Julie,

I would also get GP out to check temp and BP ? post op infection? you dont say how long ago the appendix removal was? . Then if that is eliminated definetely request (strongly)  urgent referral to gastro - this does sound like Crohns.

warm lavender baths (not hot) can help with the pains and liquid/soft diet can help as the food passes through the inflamed areas - worth a try excluding wheat and dairy as these can be irritants as can high fibre foods - salads, fruit and pulses. Poor love! that doesn't leave her a lot - maybe soups and non dairy yoghuts.Maybe try for a few days only and let Dr know!

    Good luck

PS I was eventually diagnosed acute appendicitis (long story many GP visits) in Jan 2014 had what was left of it removed and bowel adhesions sorted, pain continued and had scans and colonoscpy (yikes) and diagnosed with crohns - 3 courses steroids over last year and half now have stricture and will have op soon but trying immune suppresants in meanwhile (with limited success)

So if is Crohns she has a journey ahead but with a good gastro and support of Mum can get quality of life back. Good luck

I had same scenario as you, not much luck with immuno suppressant and steroids my only saviour (teeth and bones suffered tho). I had op due to stricture 5 years ago and on the whole have been much better as surgeon got out a length of diseased bowel. Due a colonoscopy in the next couple of weeks to check things are still ok. Have the odd bad day but nothing like it was hope your op is as successful as mine.
