I was given sertraline a month ago to start taking but I haven't done it as I have read the side effects and got scared
I do not feel better, for a few days I'll feel ok but it'll always go back to the same, thinking of suicide and thinking there is No point in my being here anymore
I am really scared to take these pills but this is no way of living
Please has anyone been in this position before

Don't be scared to take them .......they will help and as long as you know the sides effects when they do start at least you know it's only the pills .....I wasn't so lucky I didn't know about this site until after the side effects .......they do take quite some time to get into your system and also to find the best dose for you ....... But I actually feel quite normal now which is great. I started in November but had to mess about with the dosage but have got there in the end .....hope this helps

Hi Leanne, I read the same reviews and horror stories, but like you I couldn't live the way I was at the time, so I jumped in at 25mg after first week I felt better side effects were manageable then went to 50 MG for 3 weeks and wk 2 and 3 were rough I thought I was worse, at wk 4 went back to doc, she put me on 100mg, and that changed everything, I feel 100% better, use this forum for support, there are people just like us and will offer all the advice and support possible. I'm on week 5 hope this helps.

100% yes and 3 months later they sit in my drawer and each day I am struggling with fatigue and low mood / constant stress and anxiety and sleep problems. have been back to the doctors a few times hoping for a different option but they always say just try Sertraline - it will help.
I have booked a week off work now to try them. It's just got to the breaking point were I think surely the side effects can't be worse than living like this day in day out?
They affect everyone differently and sadly the only way you know is until you try.
Hope it goes well for you.

Hi Leanne. Your doc gave you sertaline to help you hun. Take them! I am now on 8 months and yes the first month or so isn't great but the light at the end is bright. Yes there are side effects but not everyone gets them.
The help is there.. take it. Mine sat in a cupboard for a few weeks until my hubby stood behind me and made me take it. Yes I still have bad days and u will post on here as the support is amazing g.
Good luck. X

Hi Leanne.
I felt the same as you, I don't like taking medication but I was suffering
health anxiety, and felt very low. I thought I had all sorts medical
conditions and thought I was going to die, i wasn't in control of my own
thoughts and was feeling out of control.
I went to see a very understanding Lady doctor who had full bloods done
had ECG because my heart was racing so much blood presure was
up and down like a yo-yo.
I was put on 25mg of sertraline a month a go and I had Side effects but
after about 2 weeks every day I had less, my anxiety levels are down by
90% now and I look forward to my day again I'm laughing and singing
again, I think im coping with the 25mg at the moment so no plans to up it
yet, I take mine about 8.30pm that seems to work for me.
please don't be afraid to take it, it's the best thing Iv done for my own
health. Good Luck x

My GP told me to start with 25mg and said if I needed to go
50mg, but I'm coping with the lower dose at the moment.
If your worried about taking them, start on the lower dose.
Good luck

Hi
I would take them. Part of the anxiety is over stressing on the impact of pills. I had complete shutdown at start of jan. First weeks of sertraline were painful psychologically but after that they let me reset.
8 weeks or so on I have reduced my dose to 33mg and will taper off all being well
That's against the norm of six months minimum but I also hate drugs. But honestly you need to let them help you. Feeling suicidal is truly awful - so if you rationalise what have you lose
Go for it You can always stop.
If you can get to see a psychologist for CBT or read up online with it. It will also helpUse every resource you can. You will get better
Take care. We all are rooting for you x
