Hello all,  just wanted some input. I’ve recently been diagnosed with HSV 2 with an IgG level of 1.4. So many emotions. (Devastated to say the least) I tested at 12 day’s post potential exposure. Is that too soon? I did have unprotected sex with another partner 6 weeks & 2 days prior to this test as well. Do you believe this positive is from that previous encounter or the encounter that was 12 days prior? I know places that won’t even test if it hasn’t been at least 4 weeks. The person from the 12 day encounter is supposed to go get tested as well but has not updated me on that. And I have not notified the person of the previous due to not sleeping with them after the second person. Opinions? They are appreciated & thank you in advance. Also, they sent me to another lab to have another level drawn to rule out a “false positive.” Will let you all know how that goes. I’m expecting it to still be positive. After the antibodies ARE there.

Just to add, first encounter was 9/5/17. (No protection at all) Second was 10/7/17 with condom failure.  Test was 10/19.

12 days is too early for IgG in the case of a new infection, besides which your score is a low positive, which could be false if you also carry HSV1, which you may do, as many people do, often without symptoms.

I wonder what a “normal” positive IGg is? I had my first outbreak last month, thought for sure by bf of 9 months have it to me, but my IGg result was 7, so I must have had it a while. Current bf is positive, too, but he hasn’t had any outbreaks and I don’t know what his IGg is. It could only be him or my bf from 3 yrs ago whom I haven’t talked to in 3 years. I had been tested before then and was negative. Just curious how long it would take for the IGg to reach 7 if anything above 1.2 is positive.

The uncertainty of it all is so frustrating. I was wondering if my number was so low because I was just recently exposed but was told today at a visit to the clinic that an IgG indicates an OLD infection. If you don’t mind me asking, what was your outbreak like?

It was bad, but not as bad as some folks. Stated off with what I thought was a yeast infection and then it got painful as “sores” developed, although I couldn’t actually see the sores, just feel them when I peed, sat oe walked. As those started to heal, nerve pain in my butt and upoer thighs started. Once I got Valtrex, it cleared up pretty quickly, but then it started itching horribly. I finally figured out it was a 2nd outbreak and started with the Valtrex again. Vagisil also helped with the itching. It’s mostly gone now, but it was a very uncomfortable month.

12 days would be too soon but also your number is pretty low and half the positives in that range are false positives. Also, do you have a history of a HSV 1? That could also cause false positives for the HSV 2 igg

No, no history of hsv1. (As far as I know, at least) both igG came back negative for HSV1. However, my igG did increase over a 4 day period from 1.400 to 1.59. Still waiting on the person from the second encounter to get tested. His partner tested negative for HSV 2 but had a 4.66 for HSV1 on the IGG. So I am wondering if it is too soon for me to test positive for HSV1? Like I said I did this test 6 weeks after the first person & 12 days after the second. Leading me to believe that I contracted HSV2 from the first person as the partner of the second person tested negative for HSv 2 & has been with him since May.  Surely she’d test positive by now. It’s a messy story, I know.
