hi, got tested yesterday for herpes -
assuming its that - never had coldsores before, not has my partner of 5 years so baffled if it is.
currently taking the antiviral medication, ibprophen and washing with salt walter. finding it incredibly painful to wee, tried in the bath, shower and squirting water!
does anyone know how long the sores last, had to take the week off work as can hardly walk properly.

Sorry you are feeling this way.
if its herpes the meds will kick in in about 48 or so! the lesions can be there for up to 2 weeks but they wont be sore.

Each person is different.
some people see a change within 48 hours, others it takes up to a week while on antivirals.
I think mine was about the 3 or 4 day mark that i really noticed it getting better.
Took about a week and a half or so to completely heal.
HSV can lay dormant for years without any significant symptoms and because its not routinely tested for on STD tests (even when you ask for everything), theres no way to know who had what, when.
I was given HSV by my boyfriend who was a silent carrier.
If you can, go get a prescription for lidocaine gel! that stuff was a god send and allowed me to be able to half function until the meds kicked in!
The first outbreak is always the worst!

after the first week it will be better. I was able to go back to work after the week. it was about 2 and a half weeks for me to be fully healed I think. You can wrap an ice pack in a cloth and let it rest against the area, that really helped me.
