Help and Advice wanted

Hello, I wondered if anyone could offer me some advice about my sleeping habits. I was diagnosed with insomnia around 4 years ago and have had it for as long as I can remember. But recently my sleep routine has been even more odd. I fall asleep as late as 1 to 2 am (I go to bed at 10/11) then I wake up at 11 and drift in and out of sleep for around 3 hours. I oversleep a lot of important things. Then I feel exhausted and do stupid things like lock myself out of my house, forget important engagements or space out. I sometimes experience energy bursts from 3 to 4. Then I crash at 5pm but can only sleep at 1 am. I hope someone replies and that this was the right place to write this!

My sleeping pattern sounds very much like yours and I have also been like this for about 4 yrs.. I often dont go off to sleep until after 4am and then it is not restful sleep. The only way I can describe how I feel in the day is like having massive jet leg like after a long flight. I feel weary forgetful tense spaced out etc etc. I don’t want to start on strong sleeping tablets but do resort occasionally to a one a night Nytol ( over the counter) sometimes they help sometimes not. On the rare occasions I have a good night I feel brilliant so I know it’s just the insomnia that’s bringing me down. The only help I had from my Dr was “Well no one died from not sleeping” He obviously doesn’t suffer from insomnia!!! Sorry I can’t be more help other than you are not alone.”

I have a similar problem a lot of the time. My sleep pattern comes in two parts almost every night. I can go to sleep when I lay down, but only for about two or three hours, then I wake up and have a bit of drifting in and out, then I'm wide awake around 3am or so. I have to get up and read or do something for a few hours, then I'm tired again, so I lay down and sleep for a bit, then it repeats itself as long as I let it. It sometimes takes me 14 or more hours to actually get just 8 of sleep. Then no matter how I've slept, I'm tired and foggy all day until the late evening when I have a sudden burst of energy. It ends up being that I'm only really able to do a whole lot without stupid mistakes for about two hours in the evening and the rest of the day and just a fog.
