Hi Everyone, i'm new to this so please bare with! I have extreme health anxiety it all started on a holiday where i was terrified i would get heatstroke and collapse! i got too hot which ended in having a huge panic attack where i genuinely thought i was going to die in a foreign country which lasted all our flight home and i've never really come back down from it! 😦 i've been suffering from palpations, adrenaline rushes, chest pains, nausea, full feeling in my ears, ears ringing, dizziness and constant headaches! i constantly feel like i'm going to collapse and feel constantly dizzy, i've been in and out of A&E for blood tests and CT scans which all came back normal but i still feel completely on edge, i have been to the doctor and he prescribed citalopram 10mg and diazepam and i've started CBT but i'm to scared to take the medication because as soon as i get a new med or new symptom i'm straight on google looking up all the side effects and have seen and read some awful things about it being worse before it gets better and i can't stand the thought of feeling any worse but i can't stay like this! i guess my question is has anyone suffered with these symptoms with their anxiety and if you are on citalopram 10mg how did it make you feel? How long will i stay like this for? 😦

yes all and more! ive been suffering now since i was 16 im now 42! im on diazipam! pregabalin and qutiapine but i still live with all of the symtoms u have mentioned plus a few hou bavnt ! the worst thing you can do is google things as you will convince your self your having a heart attack or that youve got a brain tumour ! i bet every time you leave your doctors you convince your self that hes missed somthing and also if i was you i would give the diazipam a try but only take them when yu need them there a good short term fix ! dont make the mistake i made and end up addicted to them as in the end they can make you mire anxiose but if u take them only when needed youll be fine and youll be able to relax ! your not alone thats a big comfort tbh knowing that u rnt imagining what your going trough ok! take all the help offered as if you get help early you shouldnt end up in a worse situation further down the line! hope you feel better soon

I had severe anxiety and severe dizziness. Started when perimenopause hit for me. I had all tests done too and everything came back fine. Walking has really helped me and I did not want to do that at first at all. I just started taking a Gaba supplement and that is helping with calmness. Flaxseed Oil capsules too have helped. Also, another poster recommended Bach Flower Remedies. She also, suffered bad anxiety and she said it really was the one thing she used that helped. I just received some today named "Joy" for stress but, I just realized they have another called "Rescue Remedy" for anxiety. I might try that one too. I did try the "Joy" tonight and I think it really may help. Takes a couple weeks to feel the full effect but, it did calm me just having used it this one time. Green tea helps me also. I tried anxiety medication when this first hit but, for me they made me feel worse. Everyone is different though. Yes, medication can make you feel worse before you feel better. That's what many say but, I always felt spaced out on the anxiety medication and after a couple weeks I was done with that. Dizzy and spacey ha that was fun. Again, they may very well work for you. I'm trying anything natural now till this calms down. I really hope you feel better. Hugs

Yes, currently going through the exact same thing! My doc prescribed me Citalopram also 10mg. I started off taking half the pill because I'm sensitive to meds also. They made me feel jittery and gave me a headache at first but gradually got better. I've been on them for 4 weeks now. Just upped it to 10mg last week. Some days I feel like they're working and I'm able to have a pretty good day but other days I fall back and feel crappy again. Everyone responds to them differently though. How long have you been feeling this way? If it's been some time then it's worth a shot. I would try the natural approach first and if that doesn't work then I would try the meds and see if they help. Best of luck and hope you feel better soon!

Hi , have you had all your vitamin levels checked ,including vitamin D , a deficiency can cause havoc inside your body ,includin and especially anxiety / panic . The full feeling or pressure in your ears sounds like vitamin D deficiency . Please get your levels checked

    Hi

I'm sorry you are in the middle of all this. It's a horrible experience. I had it for many many years but now only occassionaly and mildly. It passes. So here's what you need to know.

    1. This is anxiety. A natural protective system in your body that has your own welfare as its highest agenda. It certainly doesn't feel like it but it is your friend. This advice will feel like it goes against all common sense because obviously you want to get rid of this awful feeling, right? BUT the thing that is maintaining your fear is your avoidance of feeling and experiencing it. The more you resist it, the worse it becomes so...
    2. ACCEPT IT. If you look at your behaviour you will find that you are always running away from it and it is that URGENT FIGHT to not feel anxious that maintains your anxiety stress levels. So learn how to be friends with your anxiety.
    3. Forget all the symptoms. There are many many thousands of symptoms and I think I must have had them all over the years but the point is not to treat the symptoms but treat the core and the core fear is the fear of fear. You just dont want to feel the uncomfortable sensations that come into your body when you feel fear because it feels like there is SOMETHING WRONG WITH YOU. You are in what the buddhists call "the Trance of Fear" which is basically a very convincing illusion that you are under threat. You aren't.
    4. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH YOU and even if you take no pills or vitamins or therapies or advice or anything or nothing, NOTHING WILL HAPPEN TO YOU. You will not die, you will not go mad. YOU WILL BE OKAY.
    5. You are experiencing NERVOUS AROUSAL and that is all you are experiencing. Your mind has blown it up into something much bigger than it is which is perfectly natural because thats what anxiety does. It's very uncomfortable but that's it! That's all it is!
    6. You probably feel that you are the exception to the rule and that there really is something wrong with you because you are a special case but so does every other one of the fifty million people (UN stats.) worldwide who suffer anxiety disorder. They aren't special and neither am I and neither are you. We're just suffering from an overloaded nervous system, from nervous arousal, exactly the same as if you got very excited about something or went skiing etc. Your body would respond in the same way (palpitations, sweating, fast heart rate, fast breathing etc) but we would INTERPRET it as being excited rather than being anxious.
    7. So what to do about it? It's simple. Do the opposite of what anxiety wants you to do. This is to slowly lower and relax your nervous arousal and you do it like this.......
    8. Anxiety wants you to take it very seriously so take it with some HUMOUR as much as you are able to. Imagine your anxiety as a squeky little guy who keeps rushing in and squeking at you about all the terrible things that are going to happen.
    9. Anxiety want you to run away from it, so invite it in! Ask it to come in and sit down and have tea with you. If you can, run towards it. Ask it to stay around all day if it wants to. Allow it in and accept it.
    10. Anxiety wants you to treat it urgently, so allow yourself to settle in with it. Give yourself time. Dont insist it goes away straight away.
    11. Anxiety shuts down your cerebral cortex (it get difficult to think straight, right?) So get creative. Draw a picture of what Mr. Anxiety looks like or make a model of him/her. Write a poem about what it feels like. Put all your anxiety into a small stone and carry it around with you all day in your pocket to show it that you're happy for it to be there.
    12. Now all this may sound crazy and very counter-intuitive but the point is, IT WORKS. By accepting and allowing these anxious sensations to just be there (without doing anything about them) and accepting and allowing your anxious thoughts to be there AS BEST YOU CAN, you are allowing the nervous arousal to slowly disperse naturally and YOU WILL BE FINE AGAIN WITH NO ILL EFFECTS.
    13. Do not expect this to be comfortable. Allowing the sensations of anxiety to just be there will feel uncomfortable but you do not actually have many options. Fighting it doesn't work. Medication can help a bit but it wont "cure" you because you have nothing to be "cured" from. Anxiety is not an illness, it is a natural defense system in your body designed to protect you. You are being frightened by your own defence system so it's gone a bit over the top. Accept and allow and let time pass whilst keeping yourself occupied with physical or mental tasks.
    14. YOU WILL BE FINE. Good luck xx

I loved your post. Great advice. I will use some of these ideas. Especially the "Imagine your anxiety as a squeaky little guy who keeps rushing in and squeaking at you about all the terrible things that are going to happen. That gave me a laugh. All of it makes sense. I really do need to face it head on and challenge it. I'm not taking any medication for it. All natural supplements so muddling through each day. Many thanks!!!
