Help back problems

Hi any help would be great. I had an accident 3years ago which resulted in 2 slipped buldging discs compressing bilaterally on my nerves. He pain is so intense & continuous all the time, I am on a high cocktail of drugs. I have had many different procedures such as nerve blocks, epidurals facet joint blocks, neucleoplasty & regular nerve root blocks. These help me move a little better for a few weeks then that's it back to square one but the pain never goes. My disc is no longer compressing the nerves apparently but the pain is getting worse, I have been incontinent at times & unaware of this as I have no control or feeling, I get pins & needles & numbness all the time radiating down both legs. I also get really bad muscle spasms where I cannot release my hands or feet until they ware off. My pain consultant says it is always going to be like this & nothing more can do other than continue with the blocks every 6months. Is anybody else in this situation? I've asked if they could remove the discs fully but said no & I don't seem to be listen to when I go to appointments.

Thanks

Hi anybody help plz looking for advice quick. Basically I have bulging slipped discs l4/5 & Lower, I had nerve root blocks on 23/9/16, I have these every few months. I had a car crash on the 22/9/16 wasn't hurt other than shunted forward head hit off the air bags, bruising to my breast/chest & tummy. I still went ahead with my root blocks the day after. Anyways 2/3 weeks after I'm not improving only getting worse. I cannot straighten myself upright I have constant pins & needles & a weird really strong burning sensation all across my back & all in my bottom I can't stand upright to straighten up the pain is not going just getting worse. I've constant pins & needles & im struggling to go to the loo at times.

Should I go back to the GP, I've had these blocks so many times but never felt like this before. Thanks

Hi Ice Queen, I think instead of taking the time on here you should get to your GP or A&E!

That's the problem with sites like this everybody is a doctor or a specialist and other people believe every word they say instead of going to see a real doctor!

im sorry if I come across as really angry today that's because I am....... Let us know what your GP or A&E doctor has to say.

Hi, I went to a+e, with exactly the same symptoms you have, waited seven hours, was admitted and had a an MRI last week, it showed nothing apart from my disc issues which are ongoing, I was told to ask my gp to refer me to a neurologist.

I already saw one last year and was told it was nerve inflammation and the only treatment was pain relief.

Yes you should go back to your GP, he will be able to refer you to the right person.

Hi don't worry about it Linda.

I know where your coming from, I just didn't want to go to the doctors sounding & looking stupid.

Well I went to go she said to ring my consultant & see what he suggests, also to maybe bob a&me to be checked bladder scan because not passing urine.

I couldn't get hold of my consultant but the nurse at hospital where I had the procedure done said to go a&he aswell.

So I arrived a&e at 4pm was assessed & had bladder scan, was holiday onto a large amount- tried to provide a sample id say I passed less than 4/5mls. The doctor want to keep an eye on me & see if I could try pass more whilst waiting. A&e was rammed & it wasn't until 10pm before I got taken into a cubicle to be reassessed again, I had still not passed anything, my pain & sensations in bum/legs was not easing.

Dr said was not too concerned about my back & that more than likely my ongoing chronic back but this time round from the blocks taking a lot longer to heal & the pain ease off along with the numbness, tingling etc.

They was going to send me home but wanted to rescan my bladder, I had 410mls in place, I tried to pass urine but only managed a few drops. They decided to put a catheter in & now on a ward, the ortho consultant wants to do a scan just to make sure that there is nothing wrong since having a RTA the before surgery & due to my pain & problems now.

Hopefully will have scan tom then be home.

      Hi Icequeen,

what is your name so I don't have to keep on calling you Icequeen?

That's a long time to be at A&E but hopefully they will find out what is going on. Did they tell you anything before you left or are you still there?

I really hope you get sorted and can get some rest/sleep.

Hi icequeen ....i had same symptons but bladder was not as bad as yours...numbness in saddle area n thighs with electric type pains knocking me forward without any warning...i had emergency surgery in june this year...i have a lot more freedom with movement n almost no pain walking....but i do have pain if i sit more than 15 mins...and when im in bed... i sometimes get pain shooting through my shin bone or ankle area . .. numbness still in saddle area but seems to be improving.... i would persume you had surgery for cauda equina by now....as this was my diagnosis too....

Hi i feel for you my friend ive had lower back surgery and im still struggling and all doctors seem able to do is chuck more on meds on you and not get to the root of the problem.

U dont mention that u have had a mri scan done so my question is havenu had a mri scan if not your doctor to send u for one. Or even a CT scan as thats more detailed and could give the answers u are looking for.

Lastly dont give up keep going to your doctor even ask for a second opion dont let them fob u off as u mention trouble going to the loo if u dont have bladder control or if its dribbling i would go hospital as it could be worse , dont want to scare u but if u tell them thats what your symtoms are then u will get a diagnosis quicker , good luck
