HELP! Brain fog, fatigue, extreme short term memory loss, feeling spacey 24/7.

The last year of my life has been a brutal one. At the age of 22, I am in the lowest of lows and I desperately need some help!

Here’s my tale:

About a year ago, a couple months after an extremely strenuous relationship, I began noticing that I was tired all the time…and all around, I wasn’t really satisfied. Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoyed my friends, and activities…but life just wasn’t as bright and vibrant anymore after a month of noticing this ever-present fatigue, it got a bit stronger. I would wake up each morning completely zombie-mode…and that feeling would remain throughout the entirety of my day, until my head hit my pillow that evening.

Initially, I suspected some form of sleeping disorder. I set up a sleep study, got my thyroid checked, ferritin levels, all the basics. Sleep study revealed I sleep just fine and all my other blood tests came back negative.

The fatigue and the weight of the world slowly got worse over the next handful of months, UNTIL I woke up one morning and everything escalated greatly. I felt completely stoned. I couldn’t think right. I couldn’t concentrate. I felt inebriated. I felt totally disconnected and spacey. I felt as though I had no control over myself. I lost drive and motivation. I lost a lot of confidence.  I always had an incredibly sharp memory. It was actually something well known about me to those in my family and friend circles. Yet, on this morning, almost all new information could not be retained. Things that happened earlier in the day, by evening, I felt they happened a day or two before. I could no longer recount the activities I took part in. This is possibly the worst of all the symptoms. The extreme short term memory. I have no context for time and I sort of feel like I’m just floating through life suffering.

For months I visited doctors getting tested by specialists. I visited a neurologist, infectious disease, I had an MRI, & I had about 20 different blood tests. NOTHING. My doctor literally said “I have no idea what this could be. I am beside myself” TOTES reassuring! I tried altering my diet entirely to organic and all natural. I continued my workouts and ran 15 miles a week. I tried sleeping even earlier. I tried all I could think of .

I have scoured the message boards and found a few people suffering from the same, but without answers.

I’m not sure if depression is the culprit, but depression sure has found its nasty venom-coated fangs into my veins. Tired, depressed, failed memory, no drive, scared…it’s no way to live. I want my life back.

PLEASE OFFER INSIGHT! I will be so grateful J

Sincerely,

Taylorsaurus Rex

Ok so I have been fighting an issue similar to this for years now. I am 23 years of age. This all started occurring before I was at the age of 16. The only thing is I don't suffer from the short term memory loss part but my symptoms are very severe to the point that I can't even do anything as far as socializing, working or anything that involves using your brain. Very sad situation and this is what holds me back from living my life the way that I want to. I am a very strong person. I work three jobs throughout the week. I only wish that there was something that we could do to fix these isssues and I thought I was like the only person that suffered from this. Nobody can or will understand and doctors won't help. Though I just recently stumbled across something that may be the key to allowing us to get through this and live our lives. It is called Activive. It's not a cure for anything but it is a supplement. I am going to try it with fingers crossed in hopes to getting my life back.

    Well...

I have reread this forum multiple times over a long period of time, and it seems like it is the only one that relates to it. Additionally, so many people follow it, it's of course reassuring to see everyones stories.

    Hello

Did you ever find out what was wrong? My husband has been suffering with this for 2 years now and its getting worse. It effects our everyday life, job and just over all everything. He has the brain fog, forgets where he is and what he is doing, doesn't remember doing stuff but can tell you what happens or about a conversation he had, spaces out and he said he feels like he is here but not really here. He has had Xrays, CT Scan and MRIs. Been to his primary doctor, neck doctor and now we are off to a neurologist tomorrow to see if he can help. The MRI showed disc protruding but nothing that would cause this according to the neck doctor. If anyone has any insight to what this is please help.

      Meghan have you considered ME/CFS?

I’ve been researching my own symptoms, and the severe cognitive impairment indicates it could be ME. Research is showing cells of ME patients don’t convert energy the same way normal peoples do.

I know I responded recently, and I'm doing this again because I feel its my obligation to do so. Im fourteen now, and had extreme spaciness and tension in my head for nearly two years. I didn't have a good social situation, and my school is extremely strict, so I was extremely stressed. It was horrible. I felt like a rubber band was wrapped around my head, times a thousand. i just couldn't think straight. It made my grades tank, and my friends all started calling me an idiot. This just worsened it for me. Then, my family got a discount deal in one of the finest hotels in the Caribbean. My tension, which I had for nearly two years... had just stopped in two days. When I returned, my grades were better. Everyone regarded me as an equal. Over time, I became interested in the musical, which unfortunately took a lot of time from my schedule, and my grades tanked again. The cycle had repeated, however my tension wasn't nearly as bad as before. I saw a doctor. I had done a lot of research. I talked to a doctor, we simultaneously diagnosed it as an aggravated form of head tension. She gave my prescriptions for Vitamin b2, Magnesium, and melatonin. Sleep is one of the most fundamental ways to fix this. I feel a whole lot better now, barely experiencing head tension. When i'm in dark places, waking up, or in a stressful environment I have tension. The worst way to gain head tension back is t think about it. In fact, I have a bit of a headache writing this now. That's why its a cycle of pain. You get stressed from the tension, which causes more tension. My advice, register the fact that its going to be hard to solve this, and making up wild theories for strange diseases is worsening it. Everyone has stated in their posts that they're going through stressful times, so look for the cure for the common problem. Taylor just got out of a strenuous relationship. Ive now seen other forums, and people say they've solved their problems with a just a happier outlook on life. Try sleep drugs. They help me become more productive and energetic in the day. If something in your life is stressful and unhappy, politely tell it to screw off. Everybody can get rid of this horrid thing just like I did. Just see whats not working in your life and take it out. Take a vacation, spend two months in Death Valley. Feel life with no obligations. If you do what makes you feel happy, this will go away. I guarantee it.

Ah! I know the feeling very well. I've had this problem for ALL of my life, until I found out what it was! It was my kidneys/adrenal glands as well as my iron. Check your RBC count and find out if they are low. Most doctors will tell you that your your levels are fine when they are not. Also, check your blood pressure too....kidneys and adrenals control blood pressure. The good news is that you can turn this all around, but it takes time/discipline and courage. We live in a crazy fast pace society, even writing this comment here I'm looking at the clock because I've got to get back to work, seriously!!

I've been studying about detoxification for quite sometime and I have learned allot about my body. I learned the power of herbs, good food, and rest....all we really have to do is sacrifice some time to get well. I hope you have found a solution.

We are all in this together, remember that!

Hi! I joined just so I could reply to this...

So, amazingly the secret to your malady lies in your query. You give us the most essential and basic conditions of your problem right off the bat. You were in a strenuous relationship, with lots of give and take and pulling back and forth probably, this tires the mind the heart and the adrenals. When you get bogged down by arguments and such, your body reacts with subdued-ness. I'm not a doctor so please dont take this as medical advice, but sometimes when something stressful happens you need to take care of yourself to be kind to yourself and heal yourself from the trauma of a bad relationship. Eat well, exercise as you have been, and continue to see a doctor if you need to. but know you are not alone.

Try gluten free vegan diet. then have a little chicken sometime. and sugar free too. that helped me.

Found out i was gluten intolerant. My tests showed negative for celiac though. But i took out gluten and tried to avoid ALL processed foods period. I didn't reach for gluten free products as those can be processed too but i use almond flour for baking and a little sugar not a lot. or sugar replacement.

i also hear that gluten free sugar free keto diet helps too! sounds weird since keto can cause fatigue but, i don't follow the keto rules exactly. I eat chicken, veggies and fruit. as much as i want and potato is another trigger for me but not sweet potato

    Hi,

I myself have had suffered from similar symptoms now for 3.5. Have you found any answers? Please message me because I think I finally found out what is wrong with me, but it took me seeing many specialists and there are so many people out there that suffer from this with no answers. I am hoping I can help people seek the correct professionals.

I think you are experiencing effects of extreme stress. Stress gets better working out at a gym. try going to a gym and weightlifting. Try lifting heavier weights, that tends to relax the body and mind.
