HELP! CONSTIPATED

Hi.
I'm really desperate for help at this point.
To be honest, I haven't had a BM jn about 4-5 weeks. It's really big, dry and hard. No matter hoe much I strain, I can't get it out.
I don't have any constipation meds in the house, so I went out and bought Dulcolax. I googled it and read a few ratings, and now I'm pretty scared.
I'n only 17 and I really don't want my mom to know about this since she yelled at me last time it happened and I had to stay on the toilet for hours and had a very painful BM.
I bought Dulcolax because I thought it would soften the stool.
Please help. Will it soften it? Or will it just force me to pass a painful stool? The hospital isn't an option. So please.

Hi Elri,
If you haven't passed anything for 4-5 weeks you really should go to hospital or at least your doctor as the stool could become so compacted that it causes an obstruction which would explain why you can't pass it. Why is the hospital not an option?

My parents can't know about it. Last time they got really mad at me and yelled at me and treated me coldly for weeks.
I had stay up that night and struggle by myself and they went to bed. Besides, I'm really scared of going to the hospital. And I really don't like doctors or people touching me.
What medication should I take? Please just help with that

But why would they be angry at you? It's not your fault you are constipated. At some stage or another you will have to go to hospital or the doctors for something so I think you need to overcome this fear you have of going to see the professionals. They will help you. If you are severely constipated no over the counter remedies will work. You may have a blockage and this will require medical intervention.

Can you recommend meds that will help soften it? Then I'll tell my mom. But I really want to keep going to a doctor as a last resort.

Dulcolax is a stimulant laxative. Try your best to avoid taking stimulants often, because eventually, your colon may not work without taking them. You don't want to become dependent on them. You can try psyllium fiber (Metamucil), magnesium citrate, magnesium oxide, polyethylene glycol (Miralax), Milk of Magnesia, etc. Make sure you drink lots of water with them; especially the fiber. If you take fiber with little water, it will turn into a brick in your colon. In fact, try to drink more water all day. Try a stool softener pill. I also really think you may need medical testing in order to make sure you don't have a serious medical condition that is causing, perhaps, blockages in your colon.
