Help...doctor won't do anything

So back in August 14 (I think) I saw my GP regarding my migraines who referred me to a neurologist who prescribed me 300mg of gabapentin which is now up to 900mg....and it has now got to the point where the gabapentin isn't helping. I am not sure if this is related but I am not sleeping at night...despite the fact that I am tired, this then results in me waking up the next day with about 4 hours sleep feeling like I haven't slept at all...I don't ever feel refreshed at all. And then by about 12-1pm I end up with a migraine...and not a mild one either! I have tried kalms night tablets to help me sleep but they don't help me at all.

So I saw my GP today telling her exactly the same....and she says that because I am too young ( I am a 5ft 11 20 year old girl) she cannot give me anything, she won't even consider prescribing me the other tablets my neurologist suggested! And as for the sleep she says to have a glass of milk....that's not going to help!

So basically I have got to suffer sad

Hello NicolaAnne. You seem to have a very unsympathetic doctor and to not prescribe medication recommended by a consultant is basically very bad practice. I would see another doctor in the practice if that's at all possible and ring the consultants secretary explaining that your GP is not following his advice and what can she suggest. Hope that helps.

Hi, I am going to try and get an appointment with her but the wait will probably be quite long! I don't know the secretary number sad I might go to the opticians too have another test done.

      Thank you

To speak to the secretary just ring the hospital and ask for the consultant secretary. They'll be able to put you through.

Good. GP's are expected to follow consultants recommendations and if they don't agree I would expect them to discuss it with them directly. Have you got another appointment with the consultant?

Nope he didn't feel he needed to see me again unless something came up on my MRI...but that was clear...but he did state that he would be happy to see me again if my GP had any worries...so maybe I will write to the secretary explaining it all, as then atleast it is in writing.

I think that's a very good idea. Putting things in writing gives you the opportunity to say everything you want to say. Sometimes when you make a telephone call you get distracted and forget to say everything you want to.

Hi, you need to go back to the doctor and demand they try you on something else, I have been on amatriptlyn, pitzotfen, and something else I can't remember the name of. None worked for me however if they can give them to me demand they try you with some other ways! I'm 20 and 5ft2! So she's telling lies! I'm now doing a food diet to see if any foods are starting off my migrianes. I no the feeling tho, when no one will help you. And migrianes are the worst thing on the planet to me. Have they given you any strong painkillers? x
