Hi Shawn.... it's possible that you may have  a form or forms of arthritis... but there is also something called enteropathic arthritis - which apparently comes with IBD.  I'd do a search on it.  I've been told I've got three... the garden variety osteo, the rheum and the enteropathic.  (I don't do things by halves!).... while I'm a bit older, lately the osteo has become somewhat aggressive too...  May I suggest that you possibly see your GP (Doctor) to see if you can get a referral to a specialist after she/he asks about your symptoms so the doc can do the referral....  sometimes they can adjust or change or add another drug if they think that could help.  Just make sure they don't give you any NSAIDs... that could make the UC worse as it had in my case near the beginning of this 'adventure in UC land!'

    Take care.

I will look into thoes could be helpful thank you. I have been suffering day after day yoga exercise seems to help temporarily but for the majority of the time its unbareable.

I was seeing a rhumetologist but he was of no help it seems like the only time someone cares about an issue is dependant on weather or not its visible . Im almost at the point of quitting my job because of it.

What kind of physician did you see? Was it a rhumetologist?

I had much the same problem as you did... but I went so far as to lodge an official complaint - because of a drug I was given and then shoved to the side by being discharged.. it was an NSAID which I still contend made the UC worse but I kept 'fighting.' It took a while but it was worth it.  I've got a great GI who backed me and the Rheum who saw me privately did a letter as well and the Rheum I have now on the NHS was a coworker of his... and she's the only Rheum I've seen... I've not been 'bounced' around which unfortunately is commonplace.    I also bugged my GP too...

Actually I'd never heard of enteropathic arthritis before and actually it made sense.... when I am not feeling all that great with the UC - it had always seemed worse....

I so wish you well.  Don't give up k!!!!!

I know... :-)  Sometimes it is hard... I notice you said shoulder pain too - I can't move my shoulder and arm backwards and even had my finger go numb where it was shooting up and down my arm everytime I used it but that seemed to have settled on its own.. I drop stuff sometimes if my thumbs play up... you'd be surprised how often you use those things...  as well plus my hip.. always had trouble with it but gosh.. I was down on the floor the other day to do something and went to get up and it was like.. I'm crippled!  I had to go to a chair - hopping mind you... think of a 'big ole' overweight 'fluffe' rabbit... then pull myself into nearly a yoga position to pop it back in.  Hubby was like.. whatchya doin'?... and I'm like seeing if I can touch my nose with my knee!!!! Oddly enough my back ain't that bad at the mo.

Another thing I do is get a sports massage which seems to help me too.. it's like things tighten up probably because of the way I'm protecting the bits that hurt... and it also is very very relaxing... it seems to release those stress hormones!!!!! (Hot stone massages are great too) but I find it I don't get a massage,  I can't turn my head.. (it was from an old injury when I was driving and rear ended by a DD).... but.. that's another thought - even if it's just to reduce a bit of stress and get things moving again! :-)

      Take care

Sorry to hear you are having such a bad time! I have had UC for over 6 years now! I also suffer quite badly with bone and joint pain, mostly this past 18 months and I'm not quite sure if that's just another side effect of the many drugs I have tried over the years to combat UC! My shoulders are particularly painful! The way I deal with the pain is with saunas and gentle exercise and I find the more I do that the less pain I am in! U C is a horrible disease and brings with it many other problems! Have you discussed your pain with your Consultant? I am sure he/she can help but unfortunately that may incur more medication! Good luck with it.
