Help! Ear pressure and pain constant due to Menieres!

I have an appointment in April to see a very good ENT to discuss what can be done about my Menieres.  Am also having the full balance testing prior to seeing him.  My ear pressure and pain are fairly constant now, along with intermittent dizziness and some vertigo attacks.  I follow a low sodium diet and walk every day.  Still feel bad because of the pain and pressure.  So, I broke down and starting taking the diuretic I was prescribed a few months ago, as April is far away.  I'm an R.N. and am aware how diuretics alter kidney function in order to release more fluid.  But I am desperate for relief and taking pain killers constantly is not feasible.  I took a diuretic before and had a terrible headache due to dehydration.  This one is slightly different so I will try.  Can anyone tell me what experience you had with diuretics for Menieres?  Am also on Betahistine 24 mg twice daily.  I am going to ask Dr. about steroid injections to reduce swelling.  Am also getting some pain in my good ear, hope it's not becoming bilateral!!  Thanks for your input!

    Was diagnosed with menieres in January. Been on diuretics a month. Having same issues. Have a call into docs office. Waiting on a reply. My follow up was scheduled for 4 months. My GP thinks that's way to long to wait. My problem is specialist is a hour and a half away. Vertigo spells almost every day. Constant dizziness. Meds making no difference.

      Sorry to hear you're having such a terrible time.  My specialist is also a distance away but he is one of the best.  Right now, there doesn't seem to be any one thing that works for everyone.  I waited 16 months to see the ENT I have now.  Actually saw another one while waiting.  Stay hopeful, I believe there is relief out there!  I take Gravol when dizzy or vertigo is imminent.  But only half a tablet, if It takes care of symptoms.  Get well soon!

    Can you tell me why you were presribed a diuretic? Is it supposed to help vertigo symptoms?
