Help finding clinic

I believe I have had LS for 13 years, first went to  a Gyn dr and she told me that the white figure of 8 was due to scarring from giving birth.  I knew it wasnt, she also told me that having Thrush was my cross to bear in life. She was great - not.  They prescribed Trimovate which I have been using ever since, more so when I have flare ups and its been managable on it.  I am at the moment having quite a major flare up (this is due to stress having just lost my mum) and the burning is very intense. I am going to ask my GP to refer me to a vulva clinic but was wondering if anyone could recommend one for me so I can ask for referal , I live in Manchester - the Gyn I went to was at Wythenshawe last time and as I said was useless.

Mine was in Sheffield and was good. I was taken on there even though I'm in Lincolnshire. It was my nearest Vulva clinic. My gp did the research for me when she couldn't help and I was unhappy with the way my local general hospital treated me. My gp contacted this clinic at Sheffield hospital, made me an appointment then rang me to tell me what she'd found and done. She was brilliant, not because she treated me but because she accepted that she couldn't and didn't rest until she'd put me in touch with someone who could. But I'd certainly  recommend the Sheffield hospital Vulva clinic.

You're welcome. Hope your gp is as helpful as mine. Good luck!

To cut the Dr. a little slack, I believe my episiotomy triggered the next level of LS via the Koebner effect. Any cutting or trauma to the skin can trigger flare-ups. But a vulva clinic visit would be excellent! Do take baking soda baths for the burning.

My experience is also that LS and thrush often go hand in hand in a vicious cycle. I keep a tube of Canestan and use a little if I think maybe an infection is threatening, say, after a bit too much sugar or an emotional upset.

I have been to several doctors in London, but most wont even get into a conversation with me, maybe its me lol. The best Gyn I saw was Janet Barter, a wonderful lady, she diagnosed me before I even had symptoms! I have tried to find her, she still practices, and is NHS. I tried for days to trace her. You can speak to her like a normal woman. Let me try to find her. Manchester to London is a long way but trains run direct, and on [removed], are reasonably priced.

There is a very good vulva dermotologist in Manchester called  Dr Jennifer Yell, I am thinking of going to see her, I phoned her secretary and she said she is the best in the country for treating LS. My G P didnt want to refer me as he says a gyny is best, which I am under but my trouble is my bottom and creases of my groin, so think she would maybe know some different creams to try, as my gyny, gives out the text book dermovate, and that is not helping. If you do get an appointment with her  let me know

Rose, I find the elastic in the legs of knickers causes a lot of the discomfort, leave them off for a while, wear skirts (long ones) lol, and see if it gets better.

Yes, been wearing baggy trousers with no knickers,  and find I can not wear ordinary trousers any more. Or if I get a bit hot then it really my skin really stings, been trying to get rid of this stinging foe going on 12 mths now. Trying all different products. I will get there in the end.

Rose I tried everything to stop the itching, I bought emu oil, so expensive, I was in Kangaroo Island, near Adelaide, and biught some, the first emu oil I bought was refined, the lot from Aus was not, it smelled, so decided to abort that. Now I use coconut oil, its pure, in a jar, six quid or so, and thats a big jar, get it from Holland and Barrett, Sainsburys. It stops the itch almost upon contact, and eases the soreness. Its mild, and has no additives. Would reccomend. Drawback is as its an oil, it makes your knickers oily. Also, some dyes are oil based, and it draws the dye out onto your knickers. But, it stops the itching.
