Mount Sinai has a program in their Interventional Radiology Department.

Thank you for your suggestion about Mt Sinai... I would feel better knowing someones experience with a particular doctor there.

Get the names of the IR doctors at Mt. Sinai. Then log on to New York Physician Profiles. Then enter each doctor's name. You will then be able to view the background of each doctor.

Thank you Emil... I was hoping to not have to travel afterwards. Strange that NYC doesn't have an experienced doctor versed in PAE.

Aaron Fischman is the PAE doc at Mt Sinai in NYC. 1 (212) 241-4046. I've never used him, but dont want you to think NYC has nobody.

Thank you so much for your guidance... looks like Dr. Fischman is a skilled doctor. Found good reviews like this one:

Dr Fischman performed Prostate Artery Embolization (PAE) in early March and it has been absolutely life changing - I would rate the results a 9 or 10 out of 10. The Dr and his staff were incredible - i would rate the doctor and his staff a 10 out of 10 - Super patient and informative

PAE has a learning curve to it. Hes been doing PAE for a number of years, but still ask how many hes done and at what success rate. If you have a prominent median lobe, ask him to be specific about his experience with that. PAE is a good first line procedure IMO. If it doesnt work, I encourage you to investigate Aquablation. Statistically, PAE does work, though, more often than not if median lobe is not an issue. Good luck.

I visited a doctor at Yale in New Haven, CT

    Raj Ayyagari.

I was very impressed with him. He says he has the most experience with PAE in northeast.

He spent a lot of time with me during the visit answering all questions and presenting all options including the various surgical options done by urologists.

In the end he felt I wasn't an ideal candidate because my prostate is 76cc. He had the best results with large prostates. His average size is 180cc. However, he said he would be willing to do it if I wanted it.

I also have chronic prostatitis and have decided to go with Holep in january.

Thank you for your information. I believe I read about Raj in a clinical study that he was involved with.

I made an appointment with Dr. Fischman at Mt. Sinai. He will let me know if I'm a candidate for PAE after my CAT scan the same day. Good luck in January .. it must feel good to have a plan. Let us know how it went.
