HELP! I get a UTI every single month!!

Posted , 95 users are following.

First off, let me start by saying I have seen specialists, I have taken countless amounts of antibiotics and I follow every rule known to man to avoid UTIs.

I've been getting them for about 4 years now. The last specialist I went to gave me a 2 year supply of bactrim and clearly it doesn't work. I am extremely clean. I wipe front to back, I wash before and after intercourse (as does my partner), I always relieve my bladder before and after intercourse as well. I drink about a gallon of lemon water a day. I also drink a cup of warm lemon honey water when I wake up and right before I go to sleep (as this carries a lot of antibiotic properties). I take vitamins that promote healthy vaginal walls and bladders. NOTHING WORKS!

I have to pee all the time. I'm also getting recurrent yeast and vaginosis infections which I believe are causing the UTIs but I can't seem to shake those either. This is seriously ruining my life! I'm miserable!!! I've had so many tests done including a cervical cancer biopsy and countless blood work. Even had them inject dye into my bladder and take xrays.. Everything came back normal. I have been tested for STDs more times than I can count and I always comes back clean.

I am starting to think this is related to my birth control. I have the implant in my arm. I looked back on this and realized that the one time in the last 4 years I didn't have UTIs or any infections was the 6 months I was off of the depo-provera shot. Then I went and got the implant and my symptoms started again. I am planning on taking out the implant but wanted to see if any other women had this same issue?

I read something about an injection directly into the bladder to cure this? Any advice will help. I have also tried just about EVERY SINGLE over the counter product on the planet. I have wasted so much money. I just want a solution. WTF IS GOING ON?!!!

    Hello.

I honestly feel like you're explaining what I fear. I've been getting UTIs every single month for around 6 months now, and everyday I feel like one is coming back which ruins my day & I am constantly worried about getting them. I have had tests too and all come back clean, negative, fine & yet I keep getting them. I have been clear of Uti for 2 weeks now but the last one took two different courses of antibiotics which is showing that my body isn't responding to treatment as good anymore. I fear I'm gonna get these all the time. Every time I urinate now I get burning pain after like UTI for around 15-30 minutes after. It's horrible and I live in constant fear. Like you ive tried everything over the counter and all the home remedies and yet my doctors still won't prescribe me a permanent prescription ecause all my tests my tests come back clear. even though every day I experience pain. I don't know what to do either. I'm on the pill which tbh now that you've said it i only started to get UTI's since I started taking the pill. I though condoms where giving me UTI so stopped using them & still got them so thought it was cleaning before and after sex which I do now but still managed to get one. Now I fear to have sex I literally put it off due to the fear of getting UTis. Now that you've said about it being like birth control I think that might be what it could be for me? I'll have to look into it! Before I was on the pill I never got UTIs now I've been on the pill for around just over 6 months I've constantly got them!

I hope you get better and find out what is causing your UTIs. I really hope they hurry up with this vaccination which could cure UTIs!

Yes you sound like you feel my misery! This is actually the second time in my life this has happened to me. About 12 years ago when I was first sexually active and got on the pill then changed the shot, I used to get UTIs all the time. When I got off birth control I was free from this misery for 3 years. Then I got a new partner and got on my birth control again and it started again. We broke up for about 6 months so I went off the shot and had no infection for 6 months..and when we got back together I got back on birth control (implant) and I've been in pain ever since.

The problem is that these urologists just overlook our symptoms and misery and throw antibiotics at us and eventually the bacteria becomes superior to the drugs so its recurrent. I'm going to speak with my doctor about an alternative treatment like amikin injection and then get rid of my birth control to see if that helps. I really don't know what else to do.

I know its nothing I'm doing as I have taken every preventative measure I possibly can.

      Exactly my pain.

Doctors and urologists just fob us off with antibiotics and don't even bother looking deeper into the problem. The last time I got UTI was the first time a doctor 'examined me' before prescribed me medication. Every doctor before that just gave me antibiotics and I was done, and all the last doctor did was push down on my stomach. They just don't care as much as they should. UTI is horrible. I just spoke to my partner about it being my birth control, and he was literally like 'omg yes, that's probably exactly what it is' it's the only answer. I'm meant to go back for my next 6 month prescription of my pill but imma speak to them about it causing UTI and I might just stop taking my pill for the next couple of months and if I'm UTI free I will know it's my pill and try other alternatives. Literally reading this post is like a life saver, I really do believe it might be my birth control now! X

Well I hope for both of our sake's, it is the birth control. I told my boyfriend that I would much rather have ten babies than continue to deal with this!

It seriously gets in the way of your life!

I am thinking that it must be something to do with contraception. I've been getting it for the last year roughly once a month. Think I managed to skip one last month but it is the most horrible thing. I only seem to get it for 1 day then the following 2 days I feel sensitive and a dull pressure in my lower belly but not sore. I started taking Rigevidon last year after they changed my usual pill.

I have the same fear and anxiety. Nervous that I'm going to get sick and don't want to travel anymore. Sitting on a plane for hours is bad. Certain foods lower the ph balance and created some the environment for the bacteria to grow. I read that baking soda water helps.

This is really weird. It's 2am, I have a job interview at 8.30am and I'm up in the bathroom with my second UTI of the month. Last time I had one it was during my friends hen do and completely ruined the trip. I can't seem to function normally at all, the pain is so intense. I came on here out of desperation as this has been happening more and more frequently in the last year and I've just realised that's also when I was switched from Microgynon to Rigevidon. Have you contacted your doctor about this? I'd be really interested to know what they say. I put up quite a fight about switching but they said they simply couldn't prescribe it anymore as it was too expensive and they are technically the same pill, but there's definitely been a reaction in my body since the switch.

Having suffered like you for years. My doctor diagnosed it as Vulvodynia and prescribed Nortriptyline. It seemed to work initially but I kept having to increase the dose to get the same relief as I experienced when I first started taking it.

Now I hear there is an association with this type of drug and dementia, so the future looks bleak and painful one way or another.

Yeah I'm fairly certain that's not what's going for me. I'd really rather not risk dementia .. there's gotta be a better way! My memory is bad enough as it is! Haha

I don't know the more I look into it, the more it seems like the root cause is in fact birth control. I'm discussing this with my doctor on Friday.

I have been experiencing uti since menopause. I have taken coprocessor bacterium. I also take probiotics and cranberry pills. Only time I've been good is when they put me on maintenance

I'm having the same problem. Since menopause I'm constantly getting UTIs sometimes they last for months. I have tried everything even alternative medicine. Nothing seems to be working. I am miserable.

I echo this. UTI has been a chronic condition for the past 2 years since menopause. I also experienced it during perimenopause and have been on antibiotics. Currently am taking cranberrry exctract and will go to clinic if symptoms are unbearable. Often I am told that I have the very slightest of infections. Antibiotics help less and less. Really want to figure this out.

I have had a UTI practially ongoing since 11/1/18. So far the count is up to six of them, the last one starting yesterday. I am on maintenance antibiotics and vaginal estrogen, but nothing seems to be working. Am scheduled for Urodynamics and a cystoscopy next week. Sure wish they could figure it out.

Connie65552 I got UTIs almost once a month for over 10 years. I have been UTI-free for about 2 years now. I had also tried maintenance antibiotics (they did not work and only contributed to the problem by destroying my intestinal flora. Not to mention that I developed a severe allergy to Macrobid, which had been prescribed in the beginning), vaginal oestrogen, ultrasounds... Nothing helped.

But, here's what has worked for me:

1: probiotics (I take them almost every day)

2: if and when I get the feeling a UTI is coming: 1 tsp of baking soda in warm water, 3 times a day. You drink this, it's gross, but the relief is practically instant.

3: I use a vaginal douche (yes, I know, they are not recommended by most gynecologists) on the last day of my period. It is a specific post-menstrual douche which removes all that brown discharge at the end (TMI, sorry).

4: I take D-Mannose (company that I use is NOW), 2 pills after the first 2 times I have intercourse following my period. And if I feel symptoms, I take 1 or 2 pills as needed.

All this has saved me. And I hope it helps you too! Also, it might help to avoid fizzy beverages, excess sugar, and coffee and chocolate for a little while.
