HELP! I get a UTI every single month!!
Posted , 95 users are following.
First off, let me start by saying I have seen specialists, I have taken countless amounts of antibiotics and I follow every rule known to man to avoid UTIs.
I've been getting them for about 4 years now. The last specialist I went to gave me a 2 year supply of bactrim and clearly it doesn't work. I am extremely clean. I wipe front to back, I wash before and after intercourse (as does my partner), I always relieve my bladder before and after intercourse as well. I drink about a gallon of lemon water a day. I also drink a cup of warm lemon honey water when I wake up and right before I go to sleep (as this carries a lot of antibiotic properties). I take vitamins that promote healthy vaginal walls and bladders. NOTHING WORKS!
I have to pee all the time. I'm also getting recurrent yeast and vaginosis infections which I believe are causing the UTIs but I can't seem to shake those either. This is seriously ruining my life! I'm miserable!!! I've had so many tests done including a cervical cancer biopsy and countless blood work. Even had them inject dye into my bladder and take xrays.. Everything came back normal. I have been tested for STDs more times than I can count and I always comes back clean.
I am starting to think this is related to my birth control. I have the implant in my arm. I looked back on this and realized that the one time in the last 4 years I didn't have UTIs or any infections was the 6 months I was off of the depo-provera shot. Then I went and got the implant and my symptoms started again. I am planning on taking out the implant but wanted to see if any other women had this same issue?
I read something about an injection directly into the bladder to cure this? Any advice will help. I have also tried just about EVERY SINGLE over the counter product on the planet. I have wasted so much money. I just want a solution. WTF IS GOING ON?!!!

I'm immune to cipro it sucks anyways. Go to urgent care a visit is like 40-50$ for a uti. Also talk about how you keep getting it back maybe he can give you some doses to take in between. It's weird until I got antibiotic shots I was getting them a lot and now it's tapered off.

Hello! I recently got the birth control implant in my arm and ever sense I've suffered from Utis before my period and during . I think it's interstitial cystitis but I'm not sure as I'm too scared to see a professional

If you have a uti on a home test just go in and get meds. Usually if you get a uti right after another those meds wernt strong enough to kill it off.

Hi Hannah - I have IC. I went to my doctor and she tested me for everything under the sun and all came back negative. The last time I went to see my doc about this issue, she slammed my file shut and told me it was all in my head. I left her office and went right to a walk in clinic. The doc sent me to a urologist and I was diagnosed with interstitial cystitis. The test was a cystoscopy - a tiny camera that they insert in your urethra. Very easy test. The doc put me on Elmiron which doesn't work for everyone - it didn't work for me. This was many years ago and my IC has since gone away. I highly recommend you see a urologist. I know your post was over a year ago - but if you're still trying to figure it out - maybe this will help. Good luck.

OMGoodness thank you, I was once on drool shot for birth control, that may need when my UTIs started, now I'm on the pill, have been following the rules to not get them yet I'm in pain again from one now.I told my Obgyn something else is wrong, he said we'll get ultrasound if pain doesn't go away. Condoms seem to be able to cause same problem (I'm not having a child, 3 stepkids and oldest having a baby enough for me) I see a urologist tomo supposed to leave for Georgia this Thursday and is Monday 12:28am now. What the hell am I supposed to do? I wonder, hope, I can get ultrasound before Thursday, leave home at 8 am for airport. I don't want to suffer through vacation, non refundable, serious can't reschedule plans. Well ultrasound and mention kidneys may show something. Time after time. Thank you for pointing out pill, never thought of that one.

I almost cried reading this. I really really feel your pain. I live in the UK and of course we have the national health service, but i think it has its downsides. They are so over worked and under paid, people just continually get fobbed off. I have had COUNTLESS courses of antibiotics - trimethroprim, cefalixin, nitrof - all of which have lost their effectivness almost completely. I have had ultrasounds and scans and I've even had an operation under general anaesthetic to widen my urethra. None of which has solved the problem.
I take probiotics, I take Cranberry supplements, I take D-Mannose tablets, I take an antibiotic within 2 hours of having sex, every single time. I dont know what else i can do :'(
The one thing i am clinging onto is the fact it could have something to do with my birth control/contraceptive pill. I take the microgynon pill with a break to have my period.
Annoyingly, the 2 months following my operation i stopped taking my contraceptive pill. So there is a chance that the relief i felt from stopping the pill, was actually a result of the operation. I am interested to know if you or anyone else had any relief from coming off your birth control?
If that doesnt cure it, i really dont know what will. I'm sick of worrying about getting a UTI, im sick of constantly needing to wee ALL THE BLOODY TIME. I'm sick of this ruining my life. HELP

Hello Edie23085
After reading your comment i felt like I had written it and forgotten! I have had a chronic uti for 18 months and have been put all on all antibiotics in the UK! I've just seen my urologist after my MRI and have been told there is nothing else I can be tested for as all urine cultures, pressure tests, scans and stretching my urethra has shown that there is nothing wrong with my bladder and I shouldn't have a constant infection.
My doctor mentioned in passing that it could be related to hormones.. did you try coming off your birth control? If so, did it have an effect??

Hi Natasha0305
So great to hear from someone with the same problem! But in the same breath I am so sorry that you are going through it too.
So I stopped taking the pill for a couple of months after the op and I had no problems for 2 months. I was still weeing a lot but I have just accepted that as normal now. I had little or no symptoms of a uti at all. At the time I put it down to the operation. But i went back on the pill shortly before I went on holiday, and low and behold, I got an infection whilst in Greece. I do genuinely think the pill is having an effect, like you said I think it may be the hormones. Ive decided that when this months pill is finished, i'll stop taking it for a couple of months and see what happens. The boyfriend will just have to put up with condoms haha.
I do have some small doubts, because I have had uti's since I was a child. But I think the pill may be enhancing the problem. I will definitely make sure to let you know if coming off the pill makes a difference!
All the best x

About 3 weeks ago I took antibiotics for chlamidia and of course a week later I had to have a Pap smear to make sure it was gone, well the day after I had a Pap smear I got a uti. They put me on Bactrim ds but I took almost the whole course and I still had the uti I fact it was worst. So this past Wednesday they gave me macrobid and I'm almost on day 3 and it's still burning but my pee is clear and light yellow. Any advice??

Have you found out what the problem is? I'm suffering really terribly and your story sounds like mine. X

Hey all,
Sorry to hear you're all suffering. I have constant UTI's for years and had a similar experience of being fobbed off with antibiotics. Eventually it had such a horrid effect on my life - many days off work, often not being able to get out of the bath - I took a loan and went private (I'm in the uk). In turned out I had a urethral structure and an infection in my bladder that was resistant to the antibiotics that I was being given. The surgeon widened my urethra (excruciating pain for around 3 days) and I had a strong dose of antibiotics (that would beat the infection) plus a low dose of antibiotics for 1 years. Since then (9 years) I've had probably 1-2 UTIs per year, a massive improvement, that is usually fixed by a simple course of antibiotics. Unfortunately it is not 5he perfect end to the story - the problem is not entirely fixed
- but a huge improvement which unfortunately I think might be the best I can hope for. I recommend insisting on a uroscopy to truly get to the bottom of things.
Best of luck ladies - it really is awful. Xx
