Help i'm getting really fed up

Hi all,

I'm a newbie to this forum so pls bear with me.

I'm a long time migraine sufferer and hav had periods of varying migraine intensities/frequencies throughout my life. Unfortunately at the moment my migraines seem to be getting worse again and have increased in frequency to circa one every 6-8weeks. I have no idea what my triggers are (except for de-hydration which i can control) and have been working with my GP over the last few years on a range of preventative and pain killing drugs.

He's tried all sorts of prevents with me including beta blockers, triptans, anti-inflams and i'm currentl trying antihistamines which aren't working (at least my migraine last night suggests so).

I'm getting fed up and feel like a guinea pig for my doctor who doesn't seem to have a clue. I asked him to refer me to a specialist but he says there is no such thing for migraine. Now i've looked on line and there seems to be migraine clinics all over (there is one near me in Preston). Does anyone have any experience in using clinics? Would they reccomend them? How can i convince my GP to send me there (I can't afford to go private really).

Alternatively i've seen that there is migraine surgery on offer (migraine surgery centre in manchester) involving botox. Does anyone have any experience of this and its success rate? Can anyone have it or is it only for people who have them very frequently? How much does it cost in total as the website suggests £350 for the surgery but doesn't talk follow up etc...

On final thing (sorry this is turning into a long note) is that i also have persistent low level headaches and a feeling of 'being flushed and hot' in the head almost like when you have a temperature. I can't help feeling that the two are related but i can;t seem to get my GP to acknowledge or relate them. Does this strike a cord with anyone out there???

All help - views - etc welcom

Hi. Like you I have had suffered with migraines of varying types since I was 18, I am now 50. This week I had a confusional migraine where I did not know where I was and couldn't have told you my name. This was three days ago and yet I am still struggling with walking straight, a very fuzzy head and low level headache. It has also left me with what I can only describe as sinus symptoms. burning in my head and ears a constant runny nose. I have had this previously with a migraine and I do think the two are connected. It seems to be the aftermath if that makes sense. I have been prescribed beta blockers which have worked amazingly well but as the migraines have started to come back and are more intense than normal I have been advised to double my dose of beta blockers to hopefully stop them. With this migraine I took Sumatriptan immediately. Normally these work really well but over the course of the day I had three and they never did a thing

I used to go to the migraine clinic in the city of London. But it's so far away. It's also a charity, so they ask for a donation. You used to have to be referred by your GP, but now I think you can refer yourself. My problem is that I have severe neck pain that feeds my migraines. I have had migraines since I was about 18. My mother suffered the same. I've tried amtripatan (sorry for the spelling). It helped for a while, but the side affects of jitters really annoying and I struggled to wake up. My migraine go through good and bad spells and at the mo it's bad. They are changing I now have constant head pain and neck pain and feel dizzy and sickie. I feel lost and fed up that this condition takes over my life. I need to get better so I can return to work.

Sorry for my long rant. Just feeling low at the mo and its nice to come on a forum where people understand.
