Help! I think I might be investigated for benefit fraud! :'(

I was out in my garden earlier on and heard my rather nasty neighbour tell the DWP that there wasn't anything wrong with me and I was claiming benefits fraudulently. She was on the phone talking about her own claim which she wasn't winning on and using it to blame me! She said I was always at the shop and there was nothing wrong with me which is a lie. She gave them my full name and address.

I keep to myself, nobody here know's what's wrong with me because it's nobodies business. I receive both ESA and PIP

So obviously I am very concerned and I'd be grateful to know what to expect next and what I can do to help myself.

Thanks

    Hi Dottie,

Are you 100% sure that this person was talking about you?  Are you also 100% sure if they were talking about you that it was DWP they were talking too? Was this person outside in the garden when you heard them? eek

People claim PIP and ESA for various health conditions and just because they claim them it doesn't mean they can't have a life. I claim both too but i'm still able to go out when my pain isn't too bad.

If this person has reported you and you've done nothing wrong then you have nothing to worry about. They may or may not contact you regarding this. If they do then be honest and providing the reason why you claim don't contradict what the person has told them then it will be fine.

When i say contradict what i mean is if you say you can't go out alone and this person has reported you for doing just that, then there could be problems. Like i said if you've done nothing wrong then you have nothing to worry about. Good luck.

Yes, they were talking to the DWP about their own claim which they failed with and then used my name and address and said there was nothing wrong with me, using me to deflect from themselves, like it was going to make them change their mind or something. This person was actually rude and aggressive towards the call handler called them a c*nt a few times, demanded an apology and said they weren't listening to them. I would really hope they would throw this out on principal.

I don't actually know where this person got the idea from i'm always at the shop because I get my food from asda online and my family brings me anything I need. It's all lies.

Thank you smile I changed my name in case I could be identified by it.

There are some nasty and very jealous people out there but like i said if you've done nothing wrong and your claim is genuine then you really have nothing to worry about. DWP may contact you, if they do then just answer their questions truthfully and i'm sure everything will be fine.

I really have no idea if they follow up every single report they receive. If you do online shopping with Asda then maybe you can print some emails off to prove that you shop this way? Other than that i really don't know. There's nothing you can do really unless they contact you.

      Good luck.

Thank you. This person's life is falling apart and they want to take others down with them, they are heavily into drugs and use their flat to work as a prostitute, they are at rock bottom. I have only ever spoken to them once and that was several years ago when they moved in. They were rude to me, i shut them down and walked away. But each time they see me they shout abuse, make nasty comments, but i keep going and ignore them.

I am hoping that because of this person's behaviour on the phone, their aggressive behaviour, the abuse and foul language that the DWP doesn't think anything of it and put it down to the fact they were in full flow of abuse and foul language.

I've been on disability benefits 15 years awarded both indefinite IB and DLA and transferred over to both ESA and PIP. I have full and extensive medical history which the DWP have copies of, my PIP application consisted of 130 separate documents. I am hoping that both my applications and supporting evidence will help the DWP to see this is false. But I am happy to answer any questions they may have.

Thank you for your help Denise smile

      You're welcome!

Sounds like this person has nothing better to do than poke their nose into other peoples business. Jealousy is a terrible thing. With all that evidence and knowing you've done nothing wrong, i'm sure you'll have nothing to worry about.

If do receive anything from DWP and you need further advice then maybe a visit to your local CAB would help.

it sounds like someone reported your neighbour with what you've say ,and they most likely feel its you , I wouldn't worry yourself about it as you stated you have loads of evidence to support your claim , most likely come to nothing , hey neighbours don't we just love them mine up most of the night slamming doors dogs howling and smoking dope  good luck anyway confused

Basically if you are not claiming benefit by fraud there is absolutely nothing to worry about.

If the worst comes to the worst got to CAB and ask them if there is a local Welfare Rights Officer who can represent you if you have to go for interview.
