Help! inguinal hernia repair in Jan.

Help! Since last Wednesday severe pressure type pain that gets worse as day progresses. By early evening pressure in groin so bad can barely walk. Thigh by this time is completely numb. Groin is tingling, with shooting aching type pains starting from incision wound down to groin.

I've had 3 umbilical hernia repairs; last one Dec 13. I've been feeling nauseous since yesterday. Rang out of hours GP a couple if days ago, they weren't interested and didn't want to even see me.

If this is just the surgery taking it's time to heal, thats fine. But I'm feeling pretty unwell and have no idea where/ what to do next. The pain has been so bad that j even considered A&E but I've had extensive amounts of surgery; gynae, gsll bladder, hernias, adhesions.. That I've spent quite a few hours visiting A&E that I'll only visit there if I'm on my knees in pain..

I just have a feeling that something "isn't right" but am at a loss what to do next.

I'm new to this site and looking forward to discussing matters with people that are in the same boat.

I had severe pain round the site of a hernia repair last year and it turned out to be another hernia.  But the new one was ten times more painful than the initial one, especially towards the end of the day.  A lot of my pain was caused by the mesh from the 1st hernia repair becoming entangled in the new hernia.

I waited ages for anyone to take my pain seriously.  In fact I don't think they believe me until the surgeon cut me open to do the 2nd repair.  I don't know if this is the cause of your pain but you need to see a doctor so that it can be investigated.

In my case, I felt nauseous every morning and my bowels were just ridiculous.  I had to go to the loo up to 8 times every morning just to properly empty them.  Like you I've had a number of hernias.  I have another one now but it's not as painful as my 2nd one was.

    Hope this helps

      Hi Lesley

Thank you do much for your reply. It's so good to hear from people who are in the same boat.

I'm in worse pain now than before the inguinal hernia op. I can't believe that someone had exactly the same symptoms; it's reassuring to know that you're not on your own. I was beginning to doubt my own sanity at the weekend as I didn't think anybody would believe me.

The pressure type pain is getting me down the most; its agony and making me feel sick constantly. You have exactly the same symptom's as I do and it's quite worrying to think I may have to be opened up again..

I cannot thank you enough for replying; I will definitely see a doctor. I shall keep you posted

Good luck.  In my case they didn't see how bad it was until they opened me up and I had to wait 6 months for the op!!  So best get things kicked off as soon as you can.  I was just thinking that it was about 6 months between my 1st op and the start of the bad pain as well.

Still, it might not be the same cause in you case.  Keep us posted x
