Help just started sertraline side effects

Posted , 3 users are following.

Good evening all.

I have just been prescribed sertraline by my doctor for awful anxiety which started just before Christmas .it came out of the blue heart racing one day shaking restless etc . Saw my doctor on Tuesday and started taking them Tuesday evening. I have been given a low dose of diazepam to help as well . I have become more anxious and light headed/dizzy .

Are these normal side effects as I am getting worried . ? I suppose it takes time for the body to adjust to the meds .

Thank you for your help I know how you all feel .x

I felt the same when I started too. Diazepam and sertraline together will work well

Hello. I have been on sertraline for anxiety for 7 weeks now. For the first week I felt pretty sick, dizzy, dry mouth, insomnia etc. that lifted over the next couple of weeks and wasn't every day. Now I'm more or less totally fine. Have an odd anxious day, but nothing like I was having and I can still function and get on with my day. I take my tablet in the morning - not sure if that makes a difference? Stick with it tho, these next couple of weeks will be over before you know it and you'll feel better hopefully and back to yourself! :-)

Thank you for your comment. That is great news and given me the reassurance that the side effects will pass. I too take it in the morning .it is nice to know other people are experiencing anxiety which is an awful illness to have as no one can see it. Thank you again for taking the time to comment x

No problem at all! Anxiety is awful, I've always been over anxious about things but never to the level of when I needed to take sertraline - I was being physically sick, crying, wasn't able to leave the house etc. I never experienced anything like it in my life. It is good to know you're not on your own. The other thing which benefitted me was people said 'this won't last forever' and that is very true! Take care xx
