Help! Love One Diagnosed with Autoimmune Hepatitis

Posted , 4 users are following.

I'm not sure where to begin. All I know is my cousin (who is like a sister) was diagnosed with Autoimmune Hepatitis a month ago. I'm trying to get a better understanding of the condition so I can know what she is going through. What should she and I expect?

Wow, thanks for posting. I didn't know there was a name for this. I have autoimmune disease and have struggled with low liver function for years. My experience has been liver cysts, and gallbladder blockage and infections. I also have hypothyroid disease. I've found cleansing to be incredibly helpful in maintaining liver health.

I'm guessing that your doctors will have taken you through the medical side of things, so I'll try and shed some light on what it's like living with the condition.

I was diagnosed with AIH roughly 3 years ago - so I can understand what she's going through.

The first part is the worst part - getting used to taking all of this medication that you haven't had to before can be scary, and it's not exactly fun - but, after a few months it becomes like second nature and it's definitely not as bad as it seems at first.

I'd avoid gluten for the next few months, as I've found that you get a lot of stomach cramps and such that comes along with the condition, and gluten can ease those cramps (although i have to admit, I'm not very goof at that and end up eating bread anyway)

If you have any questions, I'll be happy to answer them, if I can!
