Help me Choose the Best Antidepressant

Hey all! A little background, I've had anxiety basically my whole life but recently it got horribly worse so I finally decided to take medication. My doctor started me on wellbutrin which made EVERYTHING WORSE. After further research I found out that it's not really used for anxiety so that made me even more frustrated. I then decided to see a psychiatrist. He started me on lexapro- which made me vomit a couple times so we switched to prozac... then I got really bad depersonalization so he gave me paxil (I was hesitant to switch because I didn't feel horrible on the prozac so I thought maybe I'd stick it out- but it was getting worse. Rather than try the Paxil he suggested zoloft. It honestly felt like no matter what medication I tried my anxiety was becoming worse. So long story short I stopped the zoloft and tried to figure it out on my own, and shocker everything is worse. So my question is what medication do you guys recommend? Because right now I have zoloft, prozac, lexapro, and paxil in my possession and I am going to pick one to start again and I am wondering which one you guys this is best. My technical diagnosis is generalized anxiety disorder. Also I know most of you will tell me to ask my doctor but he told me to pick whichever one I thought had the most mild side effects which I think would be either lexapro or prozac. So any suggestions are welcome!

Well there is only one sari antidepressants that is labelled to use for GAD and that is Effexor. This is the only one to be beneficial against GAD. Hope this helps, Steve

Hi Ann. I think so far it's been the one that has had the least amount of side effects. Also, only lexapro, paxil, and cymbalta are approved by the FDA for generalized anxiety. All the other antidepressants can be used for anxiety but they haven't been proved to improve anxiety. So drugs like zoloft, prozac, and other SSRIs might not necessarily help your anxiety. In my opinion these drugs are best for depression. Which makes sense as to why they would increase someone's anxiety because depression is a low energy state and anxiety is a high energy state.

I have anxietty and depression, coupled with agitation, it concerns me that nothing has sorked except, the mirtazapine for sleep.  I am not sure i will be allowed ro try another a.d. until i get the diazepam lowered from 5 at night, and 3 in day. Pdoc said it would,be easy as not high!

see cpn next week, not much help as doesnt discuss drugs.

Hi Ann. Yea, I have bad bouts of anxiety early morning 3am onwards as it did wake me up. Anyway, I presumed I had gad general anxiety, so I got on the internet and found out all I could about this condition, and came to the conclusion over a number of weeks thru the comments that people were making is that the 3 best meds for this anxiety are pregabalin, Effexor, and martazipine. Also CBT is even better if u can attend courses

After taking these drugs as prescribed my anxiety has now. disappeared thank god, so I hope this can help u Ann ..Best wishes Steve

They have tried pregabalin, made me a zombie.  Cbt 25 sessions , no better.  On mirtazapine for three years, cannot get over 15mg as agitation recurs, effexor tried 20years ago, felt was going mad.  Maybe i need to try it again but my main problem is agitation with anxiety and depression.  Just dont know what to do and psych doc isnt sure either.

Hi, Venkefaxine (Effexor) is particularly potent for anxiety and great for depression 150mg is the usual therapeutic dose. Neil
