Help me understand HSV 1 genital

Posted , 4 users are following.

Hi, just found out I've got HSV 1 genital.

Just trying to get my head around the situation and find out a bit more about it.

Can you pass it on through kissing? Giving oral to your partner?

I really don't want to pass it on!

Thanks

From what I understand, no you cannot pass it on through kissing if you only have it down. However be really careful because if you aren't careful (washing your hands and stuff) you could pass the virus to your mouth or anywhere. Then you will be able to pass it onto people that way.

So I can spread the virus to other parts of my body? I originally had it on the side of my chin, doctors assumed it was impetigo and then got it again on the genitals, went to the gum clinic to find it is HSV 1.

Would I have spread it myself in this case?

Yeah, just the first 6 months to a year are the most infectious. That and because you're trying to teach yourself to not do certain things and be careful. Make sure to always wash your hands, especially if you're going to rub your eyes, mouth, and nose.

Is that just if I touched the outbreak or just in general I would have to be constantly thinking about if it's going to spread?

Will I always have to be this paranoid? I literally carry around hand gel with me everywhere! Haha

I'm sure you don't have to go that far to everytime you barely brush by it with clothes have to wash your hands. As time goes on it will be less infectious so less of a chance of spreading it. I'm the same way, I bought hand sanitizer to keep with me at all times lol. Nothing wrong with that in my eyes, I'd rather keep other people safe than not safe.

That does not make sence. How can you be sure you have it on yout chin? Did thei swap it?

You are getting antibodies. So after 3-6 months you should be immun from getting it else where. So i dont really get this. If you touch the sore and next your genital area you can pass it. So maybe you did that within the 3-6 months. Otherwise it is really unlike it to spread the virus.
