I'm so sorry to hear for your boyfriends bad news. I had a long bout with UC including many medications and treatment including full removal of my large intestine and colon.it was hard and I lot of people didn't understand what i was going through. but I was thankful to have the boyfriend I did. We had fell distant about a a year after my surgery. But yeah I do remember this issue, telling him Id understand him leaving and wanting a "normal" girlfriend. I was super depressed and had mood swings. just be patient, I promise you someone with this disease can open your mind given you keep yours attentive.

thank you for your reply and yes i do want to be very supportive i think the trouble started when he wanted to go out less because he didnt feel well i suppose it is selfish of me but i really did not understand the pain he was going through he was recently diagnosed having his first flare i just feel as though his mind is somewhere else

I know he looks normal. Trust me nothing is more fusterating than people belittleing this disease because its not like a broken arm you can physically see. The medications make it worst. On top of having physical pain he will have emotional trama. I van even begin to explain the uncomfortablility i was constantly in, my stomach and mind. I was on steroids for 3 years and they wear on a person. before they figured to try remicade, doses of chemo. Then they moved forward with full removal of my colon and large intestine while having an ostomy bag for two months. I would say my happiness times are we I would smoke a jay with my bf and watch a movie. Have him try a gluten free diet it really helped me.

I am a guy and I have had UC for 13 years with very little trouble. It is quite normal to get upset and depressed when you first find out you have it but as long as the meds work for him he will be able to have a perfectly normal life.

How old is your BF and what meds is he taking?

well he was recently diagnosed two months ago after his first flare bloody diarhea and he is now on his first time on prednisone started at 40mg and is now tapering on 10mg i dont know if i should give him space while on prednisone since ive heard of all the nasty symptoms any advice? what is he going through being on prednisone?

I haven used prednisone so I am not sure what the side effects are but it sounds like it's an immunosuppressant drug. I am about to start on a different an immunosuppressant drug Azathioprine. He's only two months in so he's probably a bit scared and a bit angry "Why me" just give him some time and I am sure he will come to terms with it and things will get back to normal.
